I just enjoy walking through the store and looking at the things I saw when I was growing up in the 80's. They have cheap prices for new mattresses. It's swamped on the weekends but I typically go early and the checkout is swift moving. Cashiers are very nice, with the exception of one much older lady. They have plenty of parking and they even have a band that occasionally sets up outside the building. They take credit and debit but they also take cash.

The variety is incredible: vintage furniture, antiques, second-hand clothing, collectibles, decor, and plenty of unexpected finds. What I enjoyed most was that no two booths were the same. And I had found that it once again expanded even more within the giant warehouse it occupies. It is quite easy to get lost in the maze of booths, but you're guaranteed a lot to look at along the way. Fleur de Flea is as much of an experience as it is a shopping spot. There are several midcentury modern furniture booths, as well as others selling all manner of art, jewelry, books, clothes, records, plants and more. On my most recent visit, I came away with a book of the script of a show I really love and a fun T-shirt. Fleur de Flea also sells cocktails and other drinks if you'd like to sip while you shop, and it's very pet friendly. You're likely to see a pup shopping alongside its owner, and Fleur de Flea's resident doggo can be found sitting on the counter by the cash registers. This is a spot that is becoming uniquely Louisville for me. I love it so!

I had to go each week to straighten up and found broken glass pieces under our table (thank goodness no one was hurt/injured) from a vase that was not a part of our items. The staff rarely greeted me, even though I always entered with a smile and said hello. Things are said over the phone, but not communicated to anyone at the store, so it's always confusion anytime you have a question. From my personal experience, I would not recommend. I hope the staff can also learn some friendlier customer service, to at least, the vendor who is bringing in a large amount of money and frequent visitors.

I partook of the Flea Off Market most recently at its annual indoor holiday bazaar, this year held at Mellwood Art Center. This included a couple of food trucks plus vendors set up throughout the two outside buildings at the art center. I also appreciate how well the Flea sets the mood for their markets, with DJs in each building and a bar where you can buy drinks. The Flea has always been more of an experience, where it's fun to shop and also to hang out. During this most recent market, I found several creative vendors that I wished I could buy from. I said to my friend who accompanied me, "I wish I had people cool enough on my Christmas list to buy some of these things for." Alas, I just had family on my list. ;-P Some of my favorite finds, though, included Georgia's Sweet Potato Pie Co. (also has a spot in the Highlands that's worth a visit!), SnoWhat, Eichen Design, FLY Girl Candles and Eden & Kissi (also has a physical location that you should go to in Buechel). I was also struck by the idea that I really need to make it a point to go to more of the Flea's outdoor markets next year so I can shop these great vendors not just at the holidays. The vendors that come are diverse and great to shop, although I can't remember the last time I made a purchase. Due to a smaller number of vendors, today's excursion was short - maybe 30 minutes. Thankfully it was set up in the lot of a local brewery so we grabbed a beer and lingered there. When we parked, we noted that there was vintage furniture, plates, tea kettles, records, clothing and a sandwich board sign calling attention to "COOL STUFF". After our meeting, we were glad to find they were still open, so we stopped in. There's music playing, but not too loud, just enough to create a welcome, relaxed vibe. Lots of vintage kitchenware, real wooden furniture, and assorted clothing. We found a decently priced women's Tommy Hilfiger pea coat, UofL hoodie, and some leather jackets, to name a few. There is a great assortment of records, and DVDs. Some children's toys and books. Ashleigh found a Betsy Johnson purse, brand new for $40. Apparently that would retail for $80. If you're into music, you'll love sorting through the records, but even more so, will love the assortment of guitars, keyboards and mixing equipment. They have some pedals and I even noted a plug-and-play all-in-one Mackie system that accommodates 10+ channels. I also spotted 2 clarinets, a bead shaker (around a gourd), and one of those cool drums that you sit and play between your legs. The owners were really nice. We chatted for about 15 mins before I purchased my Derby glass (1984) for $6, + tax. They told us that they have keys to the building next door and have been brainstorming different ideas for community engagement, maybe even an open-mic. They also mentioned they will give you 10% if you produce a receipt from another local business, because they want to encourage and help reward buying local. Being a vintage shop, I'd expect inventory will change with time and seasons. I noted lots of random little things, like gas masks, top hats and leather chokers that would come in handy for Halloween and costuming. We'll definitely be back to check them out, especially for spooky season needs, among other things.
