A small, homey space in the heart of historic, downtown Jeffersonville, Sugar Maples can be a…read moretreasure trove if you have the time and patience to browse. The space is chocked full, I mean every corner, of items. I went in for the first time during the very busy, holiday walk. The friend I was with, who's a regular antique and estate sale shopper, told me it's one of her favorite places in Jeffersonville. She especially likes the jewelry. Unfortunately, there wasn't room inside to really look at things. Despite the large crowd funneling in and out, I found the staff to be very warm and welcoming. I need to go back on a weekday or after the holidays when I have some time and some space to maneuver through the shop properly.

While in the area I insisted…read moreto my S/O that we visit the cute antique store we parked near, as I had been wanting to visit the shops in that area for quite some time. As soon as you walk in, it smells amazing. It's nice and bright, all the while maintaining the atmosphere you'd expect of stores alike. There are pieces of sheet music spread throughout the store as decorative pieces, which I love. There is sheet music that can be purchased as well, but I couldn't find anything for the cello, which is fine. Things are perfectly decorated, not too cluttered and not barren. My favorite part was all the books. I probably would have walked out with 10 books if I hadn't already had so many to read at home. The selection of old books was pleasing; dictionaries, story books, and text books amongst the ones I had had looked at. It took my S/O forever to drag me out of the store due to all the books I thought of buying whilst there. I purchased a small book and a large satchel of lavender. I thought it was great how they have bags of lavender that can be purchased, it's something you'd never expect and it smells divine. This was my first visit, but I'll be back again. I absolutely adore this store and all the treasures it holds. It's nice being able to go somewhere to see and purchase antique and vintage items and gifts, not every antique store out there is this nice!

Available items, style and pricing are going to vary by the individual vendor, with some promoting discounts. Shopping is basically on your own and if you need assistance you need to visit the entrance where the cashiers are checking customers out. We didn't come close to visiting the bulk of the booths. However, I'm sure we'll come back when we have a slow day and 1-2 hours to browse. If you're a fan of peddler malls and flea markets, this is a shop to put on your list. It's like a huge Goodwill or an indoor yard sale with the occasional genuine antique hidden here or there. That doesn't mean this place isn't worth a visit. It is! Especially if you're a junk junkie like I am. It's just that this store is not very well curated, so you'll see things that probably should be thrown away next to one-of-kind treasures. I spent the better part of an hour just walking down the aisles and looking at all of the booths filled with miscellany. Vendors' Village is huge and looks like it used to be a grocery store. The lighting is harsh and bleak, like it is in a grocery store, which could explain why I felt a little unsettled while walking around. I kept thinking I saw things out of the corner of my eye, or that people were behind me. I didn't and they weren't! But this place did give me the creeps a bit.

Over the last couple of years, I've visited The Flea off Market several times and it doesn't hold…read morethe same excitement for me as it once did. The vendors that come are diverse and great to shop, although I can't remember the last time I made a purchase. Due to a smaller number of vendors, today's excursion was short - maybe 30 minutes. Thankfully it was set up in the lot of a local brewery so we grabbed a beer and lingered there. If you're pointed in the direction of The Flea, definitely pull over and browse; however, I can't recommend it as the destination or reason for your outing.

I partook of the Flea Off Market most recently at its annual indoor holiday bazaar, this year held at Mellwood Art Center. This included a couple of food trucks plus vendors set up throughout the two outside buildings at the art center. I also appreciate how well the Flea sets the mood for their markets, with DJs in each building and a bar where you can buy drinks. The Flea has always been more of an experience, where it's fun to shop and also to hang out. During this most recent market, I found several creative vendors that I wished I could buy from. I said to my friend who accompanied me, "I wish I had people cool enough on my Christmas list to buy some of these things for." Alas, I just had family on my list. ;-P Some of my favorite finds, though, included Georgia's Sweet Potato Pie Co. (also has a spot in the Highlands that's worth a visit!), SnoWhat, Eichen Design, FLY Girl Candles and Eden & Kissi (also has a physical location that you should go to in Buechel). I was also struck by the idea that I really need to make it a point to go to more of the Flea's outdoor markets next year so I can shop these great vendors not just at the holidays. Thanks for continuing to bring some wonderful weirdness to Louisville, Flea Off Market!

I didn't catch the cat's name when I was there, but Vintage Shop Kitty is super friendly and seemed to be receptive to pets. Besides cats, this place also has some really cool clothes -- all of them old, and all of them carefully curated and thoughtfully chosen. I can tell when a vintage clothing store has done its due diligence when I flip through the racks and I want to buy more than a few things. I was THIS close to buying a Western pearl snap shirt, but really: how many pearl snap shirts does a girl need? Regretfully, I put the shirt back on the rack. Hopefully, some other savvy person snapped it up. The Odd Shop has a lot of clothing, but it has just as much vintage toys, records, ephemera and trinkets for sale. Walking into the store is like walking into your (or probably my) childhood, because there are so many things from the 1980s and 90s for sale. So many Smurfs dolls! Mickey Mouse roller skates! Easy-Bake Ovens! It's a blast from the past here.

At first I was confused on the items being for sale versus the store's personal collection but began to notice price tags on many items. It's a small space to share with shoppers and the worker so no issue to be taken care of if you have questions on an item. Many items are in "as is" condition, or maybe better described as well loved. If you're a collector, this might be a spot for you. I found it a bit crowded and overwhelming so a quick glance through was enough. (I would not recommend bringing small kids to this shop) Easy to find street parking. Also, if you love cats, there are two here to greet you.

And I had found that it once again expanded even more within the giant warehouse it occupies. It is quite easy to get lost in the maze of booths, but you're guaranteed a lot to look at along the way. Fleur de Flea is as much of an experience as it is a shopping spot. There are several midcentury modern furniture booths, as well as others selling all manner of art, jewelry, books, clothes, records, plants and more. On my most recent visit, I came away with a book of the script of a show I really love and a fun T-shirt. Fleur de Flea also sells cocktails and other drinks if you'd like to sip while you shop, and it's very pet friendly. You're likely to see a pup shopping alongside its owner, and Fleur de Flea's resident doggo can be found sitting on the counter by the cash registers.
