We had a very negative experience with Picket Fences and would not recommend them to anyone. The…read morelandlord we dealt with primarily goes by Steph, and we were subjected to unprofessional behavior as I'll describe here. First, there were chickens in the backyard despite bylaws restricting them. The coop was poorly fenced so the animals would often be found free-roaming the backyard. My dog was taken to the vet as he had ample access to the eggs laid in the backyard as well as the garbage that was fed to them. Don't go thinking we had any free egg perks; that certainly wasn't the case. In the winter, the furnace broke down a handful of times. Steph notified us that if the temperature was to hit 17 degrees, she would ensure it was addressed immediately. However, that was not the case. It's a good thing we had cold weather camping material to survive the harsh 7 degree house temperature. We were not compensated in any way for the same and Steph displayed no immediate urgency to address our safety when it was -40 out. There was also an incident where she arrived unannounced without knocking to show the house to an inspector. I was embarrassingly caught in my intimates and my roommate had an unknown man walk into her room where she was laying as I didn't have a chance to warn her prior to his intrusion. Another surprise came in the fact that one of the locks to our house didn't actually lock. I found this out by accident one day as I tripped and fell into the door and it opened. We live in a less than safe area of Ave H where my car was broken into. You can only imagine our shock to find that one of the locks weren't working. Thankfully, our lease termination was around the corner at that point. Finally, the move out inspection. Steph stated she would provide us with a cleaning list 3h prior to our final walk out and then failed to provide same. She had never made mention of this list prior. We ensured the house was reasonably clean as we should, yet she charged us $470 for cleaning and minor damages that in my opinion were largely uncalled for. I'm sure this is lengthy enough as is. All in all, I work as a professional and have lived in 6 different accomodations during my time in SK. I have never had anything negative to say about any landlord in the past, but this was entirely beyond my level of tolerance. This will certainly be addressed with the appropriate ORT authorities. Do yourself a favor and rent anywhere else.

if I could give no stars I would, not only is this company shitty but so are their properties. we…read morehad water damage in our windows and when they where notified about it we never got any information back on when it will be fixed also the sewer backed up 3 times in the first three months of us living there. nobody once offered to clean it or any form of compensation. when I asked why it keeps backing up I got told that sometimes older houses do that. every time I called the emergency number it would take them over 2 hours to respond. if they don't like you they will make sure to let you know by getting other tenants to make you feel unwanted by locking the door when out for a smoke or slamming it in your face as they walk by and making false accusations to get you evicted. would not recommend this company to anyone who cares about where they call home.
