The store has some of the usual suspects when it comes to boutique shopping but they have also gone above and beyond to find unique artists and merchandise with an Adirondack flair. When you think Adirondack, you may picture something rustic - but not so with the great home decor items these gals stock. Speaking of stock - it changes from year to year. I bought my frist Scout bag from them but don't recall seeing any on this trip. The back room seems to be where interior design magic happens. The upstairs has a room just for baby and kids. Don't forget to visit the porch upstairs for great sales! Great place to pick up a hostess gift! We'd never heard of Durfee's, but locals tell us it's been around quite a few years and is something of an institution in this community. We browsed for about 30 minutes on both levels -- the lower level has seemingly a alf acre of shoes of all types -- and checked out the men's and women's clothing on the main level. With this large stock the aisles are a little crowded, but not a big deal. They carry a lot of well-known brands like Patagonia, Dansk, Carhartt, Nike, Brooks, etc., and in general we found their prices to be a bit below larger outlets. Looking for hoodies, for instance, we found items we had seen priced elsewhere at $49 to be $29 here. We're awfully glad we chose to stop here. And as we walked out we discovered an interesting restaurant across the street (Wooden Soldier) which we are now eager to write about as well.

I just couldn't resist. The staff are so friendly and helpful, they have parking outside, but it is limited so you have to try and find some street parking. They also have a beautiful river with small waterfalls running alongside the store. A lot of tourist visiting today, especially during leaf peeping season. It is definitely worth the stop.
