Ok, so didn't actually go in to Toynbee Hall, just browsed round the outside of the old buildings and went to the cafe for lunch. Just a couple of roads behind the city, but you wouldn't know by the prices - really reasonable, cheap even. Small menu at lunch for homecooked food. Risotto was tasty and my halloumi salad was surprising filling. Quiet, clientele are poor, arty types. Most pleasant.
Toynbee Hall itself is a pretty famous place which serves the local community, providing lessons for adults in all sorts of things like languages. Very socialist, worth a visit. read more
