The toy collection is insanely fun and super well-curated. I saw everything from original Star Wars figures to Matchbox cars and He-Man. The staff were friendly and knowledgeable about the collections. You can tell a lot of love went into this place. New pieces are added as they are found "in the wild" or donated by collectors and families of collectors that have passed. They even have some duplicate/overflow items available to purchase in a little gift shop area. Tickets are a little pricy, but proceeds are used to maintain the museum, as well as a variety of community events.

So interesting to hear from Bill about not only about the history of this and other bathhouses, but also how the thermal springs water is collected, what caused the decline in the 70s and 80s and the measures in place designed to prevent the spread of illnesses, like frequent testing of the water for viruses and bacteria. Very interesting to hear about the fears and impact of the AIDS epidemic in the 80s on Hot Springs as a contrast to the current pandemic. The current Lamar Bathhouse is a stone, brick and stucco Spanish style structure. It replaced an earlier Victorian building that honored US Supreme Court Justice Lamar. The bathhouse was unique in that it offered 5 different tub lengths to accomodate a variety of heights. Several of the original tubs are on display (or can be used for a photo op). Murals and stencils were added in the 20s to elicit a more European flavor. Today, Lamar Bathhouse functions as an admininstative building and has the park store, Bathhouse Row Emporium. The young lady who rang my daughters and I up separately on 7.21.2025 was extremely friendly, but she kept asking us what rocks were what. I didn't know I was supposed to memorize everything for my kiddos. Then she failed to give both my youngest and I the "buy 4 get 1 free" bracelet deals. She charged us for 5 each. I guess I got distracted... wait, no, there was no screen for us to view as she entered them. It's a cool store with great gift ideas (like those music boxes in my photo), but a bit pricey on some items that I have seen cheaper elsewhere.
