Let's get the stigma out of the way: people suffer from mental illness; it doesn't make you any…read moreless of a person. It's okay to not be okay. That being said, I'll admit it: I suffer from some pretty extreme anxiety and panic attacks. I was diagnosed with generalized anxiety disorder and panic attack disorder right after Katrina and have bounced from psychiatrist to psychiatrist, because as someone with medical training, I got mad at doctors for spending less than 15 minutes with me, and prescribing me pills... And two weeks later when those meds were hurting me, switching me to something different and so on and so forth. Because of that, I hated psychiatrists. I didn't trust them. I thought they were the excuses of doctors that were just there to pill push. Fast-forward a couple of years after my psychiatric rebellion and lack of medication. I had just started grad school down here and all the pressure and stress were killing me and I ended up in Ochsner ER for a severe panic attack. I was assigned Dr. Megan Crochet, and it was life changing. She actually spent time getting to know me. She figured out pretty quickly that I was jaded by the system, and rather than tell me to take this med or that med, she actually explained how and why it worked, and that earned my trust. She even ran a cytochrome enzyme test on me to determine which meds would work on me based on how my body metabolized drugs... Which explained why I reacted poorly to so many of them in high school. Naturally, when she left Ochsner to open her own practice, I followed her. Unlike Ochsner and most doctor's offices, her office is warm and inviting. The lobby is full of comfy couches and even a "spa" with couches to lie down on while you wait (or while your kids are in an appointment). There are fun decorations, full of bright colors and designs, coffee and juices and healthy snacks to help yourself to, and even a little library (she even gives you a library card so you can check out books!). There are now several other doctors at the practice, and it's such a nice fit for everyone. Its the most relaxing doctor's visit you might ever go to! And Kate the receptionist is super sweet and very efficient and can help you figure out scheduling and insurance claims and things like that. I seriously cannot say enough wonderful things about Dr. Crochet. I'm like 95% convinced she was an angel sent to grace this world and help us out. She's BRILLIANT, kind, and understanding. She doesn't just spend time prescribing pills, but rather gets to know you, figures out what's going on in your life, and figures out a short-term and long-term plan for helping you, including running the genetic testing to determine which meds will work best for you, which cuts out the frustration of all of the trial and error. She's a wonderful sounding board, and helps me figure out my own problems, too, so the appointment design of 50/50 med check/"therapy" is a great design. She never talks down to me, and always recognizes me as an intellectual counterpart, which is incredible considering she's already had her doctorate for a while and I'm still a year or two off. My only negative is that she doesn't take insurance directly, but her staff can help you file a claim for out of network benefits with your insurance!

5 STARS FOR BILLINGS! :)…read more NEGATIVE STARS for his receptionist Jeanette Brown. :((( Dr. Billings is the best psychiatrist I've even met and that says a lot because I've lost count of the number over the last 30 years. he helped me more than any psychiatrist in my life. I was his patient for 10 years until I had to leave because of his receptionist. (see text below.) I have yet to find anyone who has helped me and my mental health reflects that, sadly. (previous post) The receptionist, Jeanette Brown, has ruined my relationship with Dr. Billings. She constantly contradicts Dr. Billings. Jeanette Brown decided to tell my insurance company that i have ADHD, of which i have never been diagnosed, and i was denied the medication ive been on for over five years. I called their office on a Friday afternoon. Staff left early that day. i was in the hospital for a cat bite on my hand. they would not give me my psychiatric medication. i became suicidal and called Dr Billings' Emergency line, and was told i cannot talk to Dr. Billings, only a friend or relative. That's illegal. Jeanette Brown is withholding my medical records. My current Dr. has requested them twice. I've requested them over five times. Jeanette Brown will not even return a call or email. Does Dr. Billings even know i have been requesting them for 5 months? Jeanette Brown makes decisions about your treatment. I don't think she is even giving dr. Billings my messages. I refuse to leave my psychiatric and medical needs to the responsibilities of a receptionist, Jeanett Brown, who has no medical background. I NEED to speak to Dr. Billings, not a receptionist. WHY WON'T Jeanette Brown GIVE DR. BILLINGS MY REQUEST FOR MY MEDICAL RECORDS? Why won't Jeanette Brown let me speak to Dr. Billings!? If anyone knows how i i can get in touch with him, please help. i need my 10 years of medical records. PLEASE HELP!?

Dr. Billings is a psychiatrist. His patients have mental disorders. The last thing they need it to be without their medications and to be disregarded. I think Dr. Billings is a great doctor but he needs to hire someone with more experience in the mental health field and with bedside manner and people skills. This person has absolutely no empathy for the patients. I am going to complain to the medical board. I will never go back but I do not want anyone else to experience this. The point of going to a psychiatrist is to feel better, not worse. I wonder how long it will take to get a copy of my medical records??

She is suicidal and has been for some time. Since seeing Roniger she is worse. The secretary was extremely rude and obviously irritated with life and taking it out on patients. Then Roniger ridiculed my friend and humiliated her bc she admitted she used to smoke pot - but quit over a year ago. He kept asking why she looked tired after she explained repeatedly that she does not sleep more than 2-3 hours a night. He does not listen and is a cruel, uncaring man. Now we have to find another path, bc she is emotionally out of control and her suicidal thoughts are terrifying. Gathering the courage to seek help for mental health is a tremendous feat and can make a person feel really vulnerable. I was so happy that she decided to recognize her mental issues as an illness and not a weakness or flaw and seek help again. Now, since Roniger's callous and hateful remarks, I feel hesitant to encourage her to see any psychiatrists at all. He refused to even look at the paperwork her therapist sent over. He ridiculed her for sobbing in his office. He was condescending and apathetic. I assume he does not care that she is suicidal. I read other reviews were people claimed he had patients die under his care and I can easily believe this. I have known my friend for over 20 yeas, she has serious problems, but they are treatable. She is not delusional or crazy, she was respectful and seriously thought this visit would lead to better mental health management. Roniger graduated LSU in 1968, but based on this experience it does not seem like he learned much since then - especially regarding compassion or even just general manners. For the sake of your own mental health - do NOT see this doctor or allow anyone you care about to see him.
