Nice enough hotel with friendly staff, but the traffic noise is awful. Woke me up at 4:30.

A must stay for fishermen and anyone who wants to be close to Sterling State Park!…read more Super comfy beds! I stayed in one of the suites on the third floor. Easy to see the whole parking lot so if you bring your boat you can watch it all night! ( but you shouldn't have to! The staff is super savvy and will help you take care of all security issues.) Plus will point out all the best places to visit while in town! Great breakfast buffet, courtesy of Brenda and Robin. Brenda has Cracker Barrel experience and is a stickler for quality. Robin is a hoot! She and i traded war stories. Laundry room on the 3rd floor. Snacks by the front desk. Pet friendly. Shares grounds with hotel next door so you can go there for a change of place! Nice grounds to walk and some good restaurants nearby. There is a large erase board in lobby with suggestions. Plus daily water temp and weather conditions. Some of the locals hang out there and will tell you if the fish are biting! If you want something fancy and a real good steak, Angelo's opens for dinner at 4. It's in the old Bob Evans building. The Kroger nearby has lots of reasonably priced provisions, plus they mark stuff down for manager specials early so you can get stuff for the boat and be on your way! The hotel staff can give directions. There is also a place close that will clean the fish before you leave Michigan and go back home. In deer-hunting season, they will help you get that buck ready for the freezer! The River Raisin Battlefield is nearby as is the Vietnam Memorial. Their are lots to do even if you don't fish! Check out the Phoenix Theatre for first run movies or the restaurants on Telegraph in Monroe. We have a real cool Spanish restaurant that does authentic tapas! And a St.Julian winery in nearby Dundee that has tastings on the patio! Fancy!!! A1 AUTO in town can help w/ car repairs( if needed) and Discount Tire can help you get new ones if it's your 4 wheeler that wants some lovin'! Cindy Gallup was the manager when I was there. She might still be there. I will see if there have been changes and update!

The shower was large and clean and loaded with fresh towels and the bed had fresh, warm linens. The workout room had a full rack of dumbells and several treadmills, bikes and a bench. The pool was clean and bathwater warm. Breakfast was a humongous spread of everything you could think of. I had a cheese omelets, oatmeal and a waffle but they had cereal, bagels, scrambled eggs, pancakes, muffins, rolls, pastries, and juices and yogurt and really anything you could ever want! Really close to a shopping mall and pleanty of food options. I really enjoyed my stay and I will definitely be back!

Dear Owners, What a mixed bag of feelings I had when I…read moredined at your establishment tonight! First was WOW! What a cute place! Do we really have a "wine bar" with this kind of atmosphere downriver? I saw a picture of your establishment on a friend's Facebook page a while back, she told me about you and the pictures didn't lie, it is as cute, quaint and cozy as I had expected. I was fortunate enough to have a restaurant.com certificate so I could check you out! We were seated in a little alcove that felt cozy and private. We ordered a bottle of white wine. Our waitress delivered two glasses. She explained to us that she wanted to keep our bottle under refrigeration so it wouldn't get warm. As a pretty serious wine drinker, this isn't the way it's done. We want the excitement when our bottle arrives and the special feeling when the wine is opened for us. Teach your staff how to properly serve a wine, or don't call yourself a "wine bar." We asked for our bottle, and nursed it through the food. It did get warm, if you invest in those stainless steel or clay coolers your staff won't have to worry! Your waitress made a little mistake; she delivered the bread for us to another table even though we were next. She looked us in the eye and apologized. She is a keeper; you don't often find folks like that - except Downriver - the in your face honest type. This made a negative into a positive. And the bread! Seriously, home made, with lots of warm crispy outside and soft insides and a sauce with a little extra zing on the finish! YUM! My little secret is that I have been gluten-free recently, not tonight, not with that bread on the table! The salads were gorgeous - homemade dressing, mixed greens and lovely. I can't help but wonder if a little cracked pepper offered for my salad would have added another nice flair? I like this too. It isn't an expensive thing to do and gives you that extra-special feel. Next was the hard part we waited a long time for our food. We were getting frustrated. Apparently, tonight was the first night of a new menu. My husband liked his Chicken Saltimbocca, but my swordfish was a bit over-cooked. My polenta was kind of watery. What did you do? Both proprietors came to the table, looked us in the eye and apologized. You shook our hands. You let me make suggestions and took me seriously. You are "salt of the earth" people and you WILL succeed. Our meals were comped due to the extenuating circumstances. This is what I like about Downriver; the no-nonsense approach of its people. I have seen enough of your restaurant that I will recommend it, I will be back, and I will not be disappointed! I will also write another review, and I know it will be a star or two better. Folks will give your cute place a chance, and they won't be sorry! Sincerely, Lisa L.

Small boutique hotel in the town of Monroe. I came here for a business trip and chose to stay here…read moresince it was close to the office and still very comparable in price. Upon arriving, there's no one at check in. They leave your name and room key in an envelope at the front desk. I guess I'm not use to this, but it was late and I just wanted to get into my room. I had a room on the 2nd floor. It was great and very comfortable. Lots of space for 1 person. The room had a mini fridge that had several water bottles, sodas, fruit, yogurt. It was very accommodating that they provided that for their guest. One evening it was raining and I was caught in the rain.. my clothes were drenched and I decided to do laundry. It was very easy to use and I found it super convenient. I loved Hotel Sterling and will probably be back when I'm in town again.

We heard people later on that night coming and going, but never saw another soul. We had the curb-side room since my wife was on crutches. The parking is great and free. The service, while almost invisible is excellent. The rooms are outstanding. The price is reasonable. The in room refreshments are free. I only wish we could stay here more often. My one complaint has little to do with the hotel. Downtown Monroe isn't doing great and some of the shops and eateries nearest walking distance were closed. But it's Monroe. You can drive across town in 5 minutes.
