First thing you are greeted with as you drive into this little dinosaur town!

Situated in what seems to be the middle of nowhere, this cute little dinosaur town is located near the Alberta badlands where all these amazing fossils have been excavated and continue to be excavated. You are greeted by a huge dinosaur as you enter the town with a "Welcome to Drumheller sign." This place is a 1.5 hour drive from Calgary where you will drive through plains and lots of farming fields. You feel like you're going to the middle of nowhere until you reach this little dinosaur town where the largest dinosaur in the world is located! A must see is also the Royal Tyrell museum. You will be greeted by dinosaurs everywhere! If you love dinosaurs or anyone in your family, I'd definitely recommend visiting this little dinosaur town. From the gasoline station to storefronts, you are greeted by dinosaur figures/statutes and dinosaur-themed/named businesses. Even the lamp posts have silhouettes of different dinosaurs. We drove out here for a day trip and it was well worth it! I actually wish we could've stayed a little longer to check out all the other little places in this town.

WOW this place is super cool. Great for kids and great for educational. Came here to check out the famous Royal Tyrrell Museum. This small town is famous for dinosaur. So cool. There are other small dinosaur museum and also dinosaur souvenir shops. What is interesting is on the street you can see a statue of a dinosaur that is pretty random.

Wow. I haven't been to Drumheller since I was a child and have some very distant memories of the place. Bit the memories are all filled with wonder and fun and I wanted my kids to have something similar. I didn't do much research before coming was and just going to wing our trip. I figured Royal Terrell Museum and then find something else to fill the second day. Well let me tell you there is so much more to this town then one museum. From the amazing walking paths to one tourist site after another after another. My kids kept asking me what my favorite part of our trip was and it was really hard to pick one. I would say that the Atlas Coal Mine Museum was definitely at the top of my list. Definitely not something you want to leave out. Also the suspension bridge was a unique experience. Especially when you walk across it just as a wicked summer storm is approaching like we did. My kids had loads of fun jumping around on the hoodoos. Which is now a UNESCO World Heritage site. The town itself is quaint and clean. My kids loved pointing out all the dinosaur statues in and around town. There are a number of restaurants around time unfortunately all the local or nonchain restaurants have limited hours. Especially on Sunday and Monday. The splash park provides a free fun activity for the whole family. It's also a great place to have a picnic lunch. All in all there is really so much to do and see in and around this town. We could have spent at least an extra day here. Tons of great family fun to be had.

This Fossil Shop Is Rocking! If you love rocks, stones,…read moreand fossils this is your place! We stop here every year and just can't get enough! Unique stone gifts and yard decor as well as real fossils for purchase! Don't blame me if you can't leave without something on their shelves, they are truly amazing!

This place is one my husband and I stop at every time we visit Drumheller. It's a nice little shop;…read moreeverything is clean and nicely arranged. It's run by a British lady who's very soft-spoken and friendly; she seems a little eccentric, but in a good way ;) It's relatively small, but has a pretty good selection of stuff in it. There's a variety of things for all kinds of fossil & rock collectors - though I would say the stuff they sell tends to be heavier on the fossil selection and a bit lighter on the rock end of things. On the lower end of the price range, you have small pieces of rock samples, toys for kids, little polished fossils & the like. Mid-range stuff includes jewelry (I recently bought a pendant made from a Megalodon tooth) and smaller fossils, like ammonites. On the more expensive end, you have things like really fancy ammonites and bits of fossilized dino bone in nice display stands - my husband bought part of a triceratops frill there, and they recently had a lovely fossilized crab on a stand, and I fell in love with this coffee table that had fish fossils in the tabletop. On the very pricey end of things, you have some crazy cool stuff, like the better part of an entire triceratops skull, or a really well-preserved full psittacosaurus skeleton in situ. You can probably tell I'm a bit of a nerd about this stuff :P Which is why you can tell it's a good place to check out - if a fossil-loving lady and her even bigger fossil-nerd husband like this place, you're likely to find something good there yourself :)

I saw on Tripadvisor that there was a upick farm near Red Deer. I couldn't resist! The Jungle Farm…read moreis a great stop for everyone. I went in mid-September and there was still some strawberries left and a bunch of vegetables. Sadly as a tourist, fresh vegetables don't make sense so I went with strawberries. A friendly farm hand greets you when you arrive and provides basic directions as well as a cardboard basket to carry the berries. You can pick a few berries or multiple baskets, they charge by weight ($5.25 per lb when I came). It is about a 15 min walk through some fields to the strawberry fields. Another farm hand leads you to a row and you keep picking until you are done. Fruit picking is hard work and I lasted about 20 mins. I probably picked about 20 strawberries. The cost was about $7. At first I thought the berries weren't ripe when I snuck a few on the walk back, but the next day they were crazy sweet! Fresh berries only last 1-2 days so eat them quick. Bring bug spray! There was plenty of parking, but I did come during shoulder season.

We came here with a school group and I was impressed with the organization and informational leading. We came with kids of varying ages, quite a few toddlers with short attention spans, and the staff did a great job making the sessions short but educational. With pit stops for strawberries and pumpkin picking, this was a fun element to include as we toured the farm. The wide variety of pumpkins and squ-umpkins(squash pumpkins) was so cool! The kids do course had an absolute blast on all the climbing structures and the grassy slide hill. Is adults even gave it a go! My youngest adored the tractor wagon ride and the staff were really good making sure everyone was safe around the farm equipment. The u-pick is massive and picking fall strawberries was a first for me! They were so sweet and good. They also sampled us some kohlrabi, which the kids didn't like but it definitely was a first time for them trying such an interesting veggie( for those of you that are wondering it's got a texture on the inside similar to an apple or a potato, and a flavour combo of a broccoli and cauliflower). The little market store had a variety of goods, jams, pickled things, and toys. The bathroom situation is probably the only downside with two porta potties...but at least there are bathrooms available.
