Located on 50 Rose Street in Fitzroy, the store's close proximity to the Rose Street Artist Market is a boon to it's existence. Sharing a space with Mottanai Vintage Cycle keeps things interesting. Perusing vintage bikes while waiting for your meal puts an ironic spin on things, given that many people in India ride old and rusty bikes too. The furniture is albeit low, but well put together. Old milk crates double up as tables while short stools dot the space in abundance. My friend and I shared 2 Dosas, one filled with masala potatoes and the other filled with smokey eggplant. The crisp dough made of fermented rice and lentil batter had a hint of acidity to it. Also, there are lentil poppers which make for a good snack. That being said, the star of the show is the wide range of chutneys. I would recommend getting the hot chili one if you are not afraid of pain. At this price point ($9), these guys are over-providing. The treats are both vegan and gluten-free too. What are you waiting for?

For those not in the know dosas are very thin crepes traditionally filled with spiced potato. Overdosa's menu is simple offering potato masala, spiced pumpkin or eggplant filling. Your dosa also comes with either a coconut or hot chilli chutney. You can also order poppers which are delicious fried lentil balls. We had the potato masala and the poppers with coconut chutney. I'm no expert but my companion who is Indian rated them very highly. They are hot fast and delicious. He devoured the poppers so quickly I only managed a couple. All the options here are vegan and although I am a sworn carnivore I can say that it was so tasty it didn't matter. The guys are super friendly and really keen to hear what you think of their food and have a chat. They will be at the Evelyn on Brunswick st over Anzac weekend and then they fly to India to spend a few months collecting recipes to expand their offerings and possibly open a restaurant. If you are in the mood for Indian I highly recommend checking them out.

Reasonably priced and a great selection of products. If you ever want to prepare a meal, there's great selection.. Market city coffee was fantastic, bought some cheeses, and picked up a borek pastry. Market is separated into different buildings. Seafood, deli and meats, and I didn't get to walk to the produce section. I stopped in at nine, but according to Google, it opens at six. In a shopper. Owner told me they close at three on the weekdays and four on the weekends. Open every day!

Really great lively atmosphere with lots of people and the large downtown buildings in the backdrop of the market were beautiful! There was a great fruit and vegetable selection - I choose a few different fruit options to take back to my hotel later to enjoy. I LOVE mangosteen but it's hard to get fresh ones in the US so was super stoked to see those available! The indoor section with cheeses, meat and seafood was also super impressive! I snacked on some lobster and oysters then went outside and had some sugarcane juice and the BEST MUSSELS I HAVE EVER HAD IN MY LIFE. Such a great day at this market!!

Very tasty little treats, a little exy for what you get, but I think novelty is part of the experience here. Freshly cooked, which is great, so it takes a wee while for dishes to come out. If I am in need of a snack and the taco truck is in the hood I will surely stroll in their direction for some non-Mexican tacos!

The…read moretaco soccer fields back in Red Hook used to be my playground in those New York City summers. I would sample the cuisine of south America by hitting a different truck every weekend. That was the life. Imagine my surprise this Sunday morning when I read that the Melbourne Taco Truck was across the park from my house in Coburg. I had to go. With a fistful of coins and a mug of warm coffee, I walked across Harmony Park to the truck. There was a decent line, but eventually I ordered one fish taco. I was surprised at the price, but I suppose it's only because I'm American. I suppose $6 a taco is on par for Aussie food prices. The 2 tacos with chips platter seems like an okay deal at $12, but I wasn't that hungry. And then I waited. And I waited. Now, I'm a forgiving person. I admit there was a line of people. The girls cooking had a queue of tickets to deal with. But more time passes, and I'm not the only one waiting. But I'm a patient person, maybe they're new and training. But seriously, if a person like me notices that they are waiting a long time for their food, then it's a bloody long time... outside... in the cold Australian autumn... Ok now I'm just being dramatic. Finally, my name is called and I am handed one beautiful fish taco. When it comes to tacos I know my stuff. I appreciate authenticity as much as the next food snob, but I also am the type that if authenticity is what I craved, then I would pay the $150 for a flight to cancun from JFK, thumb down a colectivo to Tulum and order real fish tacos from prime riviera maya for mere pesos. But most of the time I am just looking for anything delicious wrapped in a corn tortilla. And there it was. The most perfect looking piece of fish, dressed up in the most perfect tasting batter, resting on a bed of pickled cabbage beneath a warm blanket of poppyseed mayo. Apply yucoteco brand verde sauce and enjoy. Verdict: food - incredible Price - negligible Service - lacking but worth another try should they return to coburg.
