Lou and Larry were very well prepared for the trip, having caught a good deal of mackerel bait ahead of time and let us catch some too. Once we were out on the water, Lou and Larry worked hard to help us land a catch. They were well prepared with chum to help attract the striper to the boat and explained all the proper techniques. We ended up catching 4 striper over 30 inches and it was great fun. In addition, Lou and Larry were great to talk to and made sure to point out local landmarks and even took us in close to see the fisherman's monument before heading into the dock. You wont regret working with Lou and Larry.

I felt very safe on the boat with Captain Lou at the helm; being Gloucester natives they really knew the spots to hit to bring us home some big fish! Larry also skinned and cleaned the fish for us right on the boat, which was nice because that is certainly not something I could have done. They were both highly professional, yet relaxed and fun. I would highly recommend this charter.

The day began before sun up, and Jim and Steve were prepared with fresh caught bait in hand when they arrived to retrieve us at the local marina. We began our trek out to the fishing location which was less than 20 miles. The waves were large, the wind roaring, and the 38' boat with 13.5" beam was stable and comfortable. We we set up just after light and hooked up within no time. Turned out to be an acrobatic Mako that showed us a flip, and cut our line. Steve had us back in service immediately. After conditions hit the prime time, we hooked up on a nice bluefin. Estimated at 300-500 lbs; after an incredible fight of over 45 min, thde leader was cut by the dishes mouth. This happens when a GBFT swallows the bait upon feeding. After some time, we're hooked up once again. This time it's "Charlie". The one... That all sport fisherman dream of seeing and feeling. The real is shedding line faster than we can turn and run. 500+ yds in moments, and the winner cuts himself free on the anchor chain. 5-7 min of intense organized chaos. Capt. Alvarez spotted numerous other fish and went above and beyond to see to it that we had every opportunity to catch that dream fish before pulling up and heading in. I've been offshore many many times, and Jim is the best charter I've ever participated in; ever. His knowledge and skill set are unmatched from any fisherman I've been privileged to fish with. My 78 yr old Dad was comfortable, and my older friend Steve had the time of his life as well. I will be back until I am no longer able to fish for these giant fish of the Atlantic. If you love to fish, have a knack for learning the trade, and are willing to experience the adrenalin dump greater than that of skydiving; Dogbar fishing is the one. I cannot thank these two enough for unwavering tenacity in doing what they love most. Give em a call, and get that "whole Tuna Experience" you are missing in life. You will make memories to cherish forever. 508-733-9500 I thank you Jim and Steve, and look forward to seeing you soon. -Jon Wilbeck

We caught 700 pound bluefin tuna and wasn't able to get even a pound of the fish. I have been doing…read moretrips with my brothers for years all over the USA, and we always got the choice to keep our fish. I even asked other Captains in the area and all told me the same thing "the customer is not allowed to profit from the catch" WTH but they do??? I spent $5,000.00 for the charter including 20% tip and we get zero fish? I could write a short story on this trip but I will just say we had great experience catching the fish of a lifetime but the bs we encountered after that was a stain on a beautiful moment. This trip happened two months ago and it took me a long time to write this. I am not the type of person that feels pleasure in bad mouthing others but the boat owners in Boston waters need to rethink their policy. I will give the captain and his mate props for a job well done, they will be remembered for the rest of the four of us brother's lifetime but it would have been a little sweeter story if not for the greed. I know they see it differently and that's their prerogative. But seriously, a 707 pound bluefin tuna and we didn't even get a slice of bluefin tuna to eat or take home. I guess their argument is they're providing us with the experience of a lifetime if we were fortunate enough to catch one, for which we did so there is that. The flipside is we probably could've ended up catching nothing then we would've had a whole different story. So at the end of the day, still feel blessed for the experience and wish those captains and their mates Godspeed and blessings as well. Update: 11/9/25 I stand corrected as pointed out by the captain for which I didn't know it's apparently a federal law that anything over 73" must be sold to a market and cannot be kept for personal consumption. I am a fair person and didn't want anyone to read my review and be discouraged from fishing with Collin and his mate. To be fair I also raised my rating. The experience my brothers and I had will be talked about forever. We are still riding that high as you could imagine. The whole town was amazing as well worth every penny.

I've gone on many fishing charters for striper and I've got to say, this was by far the worst one…read moreI've been on. It's ok that the fish aren't biting, that's the nature of fishing. But on every other charter I've been on the captain actively searched for fish, running to multiple areas looking to find them. The captain here took us to an area and moored to a ball. There was some action, but it died off. He took us to another location about 300 yards away and moored again. With no luck there, he took us to a dock to fish next to while he left the boat to wax another one. If you don't mind a charter where the captain phones it in, by all means, try your luck. But if you want a captain that is willing to work and spend the gas for your money, try someone else. At least the weather was great and in all other respects it was a great time on the water. That's the only reason I graded it a 2.

Perfect for my elderly family members birthday. Imagine my surprise when a large group of intoxicated people showed up and ruined the entire experience for everyone on board. They continued to drink throughout the tour making it even more intolerable. At one point two of the drunk men stumbled over to where I was sitting for a "better view." They got so close that I was pinned against the boat and one of their friends had to intervene. The captain however, did not intervene. I observed him being tipped by this group which gave him incentive to turn a blind eye to their behavior. I wanted to address all of this at the time but did not want to make a scene in front of my family. Furthermore, I would've had to complain to the captain right in front of the drunk people which would leave me open to retaliation. I did reach out to the company the next day via email and outlined everything that took place. I received an email back a few days later from the captain denying that anything happened. No apology, no compensation of any kind. He had total disregard for the safety of everyone else on board who had their experience ruined. One last note to put things in perspective. I work at a night club. I deal with intoxicated people all the time and have a high tolerance. This behavior was unacceptable and unreasonable, especially since all of their advertising leads you to believe this will be a peaceful experience.
