If I could do less than one star, I would. A friend called me yesterday, upset because she brought…read morein a photo of a hairstyle that she wanted done, and the barbers at this shop refused to serve her. They stated that they don't "do ladies cuts". When she explained that it was a men's hairstyle that she wanted (as evidenced by the photo of the style she wanted, and that was shown to the barber), they then told her that they don't "cut ladies hair". For the life of us, we could not understand why that is so- there is absolutely no genetic difference between men and women's hair. The shop wasn't busy- both barbers on duty were clearly not doing anything of importance -- one was smoking outside and one was watching a movie inside. There was no sign signifying the fact that this was a 'men only' barbershop. Discriminating against and/or denying service to someone based solely on their gender in most likely in violation of Section 354-A:16-17 of NH state law. As someone who has a great deal of influence on where a number of individuals go to get haircuts, I will NOT be recommending this place at all to anyone ever.

Ray worked efficiently, first using thinning shears, then a couple of different trimmers, then scissors to do the length trims that needed to be done. Isabelle was the barber working in the chair next to mine, she was quite a talker so that kept my attention. There is no music or background noise so the barber shop is pretty quiet. Technically my haircut was great, I am happy with the results. At the end of the hair cut Ray used hot shaving cream to trim my sideburns and neck with a straightedge, gotta love that. I will return to Turnage, I had a good experience.

Pretty excited to write this post.. I found a great…read morebarbershop in Maine ! So I was going to wait until I was back in CT to get a cut, but something told me to take a chance and check out Goodfellas. This place seems to have multiple talented barbers and a great barber atmosphere that I wasn't expecting to find in Maine. The music was diverse and soulful, the crowd was homogeneous( obviously) but quite the wide age range. Every barber seemed to take good care of each guest- as I saw multiple guys leave with different and excellent cuts. My experience was exactly what I needed, but honestly not what I was expecting. My barber communicated with me about how I wanted my cut and confidently took charge. This was my first visit at Goodfellas and we talked a bit about my time in Southern Maine. As a black male, trusting someone to cut your hair (especially in a predominately non-minority state) is very frightening.. Glad I took a chance with Goodfellas!
