Our room was large and comfortable with a great view of the harbour. The restaurant serves a classic Scottish breakfast, and the dinners (menu changes daily: we stayed 3 nights) showcase the local seafood and meat. The food was very good. There is a modernised but not antiseptic bar and a very comfortable residents' lounge. Service throughout was excellent. It is not cheap, but good value for money if you want to push the boat out a bit for a special break away.

Yes, you have to schlep your luggage up the stairs, but this is an old, historic building. The front desk gal was so friendly and efficient. We played guitar and accordion and Jenga. The next morning, we enjoyed breakfast in the hotel before embarking on a wonderful day of food and sites. We're fans of Oban and the Kelvin!

Checking in was very easy and the front desk staff was extremely friendly and hospitable. They made sure to give us a lot of information and made it easy to book breakfasts in the morning (which even though it came with our room, we only ate 1 out of the 2 times). Breakfast is good but they don't replenish the continental portion if you come later in the day, FYI. The room was gorgeous and fairly clean, with the exception of a few details. I think it's odd hotels don't clean the top décor blanket on the bed. I had to strip that immediately as there was what looked to be pepperoni pizza mushed into it. Very large and noticeable by the way. The drapes were also covered in schmutz, so the luxury level kind of drops when you see things like this. We got a junior suite and the room was very large with an incredible view of the harbor. I mean the view alone was worth the money. The bathroom however, was not large. All the reviews I read said the bathrooms are big and great. Mine was not. It was cramped and the door to the shower made no sense at all. My 5'2" 120 pound mother would have a hard time entering this shower. It feels super gross to wash yourself and then have to rub your body against a wall to get out of the shower. Also, another thing people really seem to fail to mention is that this hotel had NO air conditioning. I read a lot of reviews before I stay at a place and was shocked that people don't mention it. There is a small fan in the closet though and you can get ice from the bar to makeshift your own a/c.

As soon as we drove through the island gates, we could tell we were arriving somewhere special, and although we knew the hotel was situated on its own island, we didn't actually think about the small bridge we would have to drive over to get there (this did terrify us a little!). Thankfully, we made it in time for our 6pm reservation which meant we could enjoy some welcome drinks along with some canapes on the front lawn in the sunshine, before being seated for our meal at 6.30pm. The menu itself is a 3 course set menu with 4 options to choose from for each course. We each decided to get something different so that we could taste and judge each other's food choices. However, one dish that really caught our attention was the Lobster special. Neither of us had ever tried lobster before (and where better to try than at a Michelin Starred restaurant?) but neither of us wanted to give up our starter choice either... After much deliberation, our waitress came to the rescue and suggested we upgraded our meal and add this dish as its own course to share! It was devine! All of the dishes were plated beautifully and tasted absolutely stunning - one of our favourites was the Apple Tart Tatin (apparently also a huge hit with the hotel residents - it never gets removed off the menu!). If you're visiting this corner of the world - it's certainly worth the travel for such a treat! For our full review, please visit our blog https://www.sandlblog.com/post/staycation-isle-of-eriska
