I'm surprised this store doesn't have a higher Yelp rating. They have a massive selection, and their service has been great. Most of the time I use their delivery service which is only $5.99 (plus a tip for the driver). In some instances, especially when shopping for gifts, I visit this store. I found their prices to be much more competitive than grocery stores or local liquor stores. They offer 10% discounts on quantity wine purchases and have occasional flash sales providing a 15% discount. They offer classes and wine tastings here, and have a good rewards program which earns $5 credits among other perks. They have a large humidor and offer many non-alcoholic gift items. Returns have been easy on the rare occasions needed, and on two occasions when my delivery order was incorrect, the Total Wine customer service team immediately credited me for the incorrect items. I recently placed a delivery order with Total Wine & More from the Shrewsbury location while preparing for a very important family event--my father's 90th birthday, combined with another celebration and my daughter being inducted into a nationally recognized business school for being at the top of her class. I want to be clear: I understand deliveries can be busy, but this experience was extremely disappointing and caused unnecessary stress at a critical time. The driver arrived and parked down the street without hazard lights, remained in his car on his phone, and made no attempt to approach the house, ring the doorbell, or identify himself. I was outside speaking with my landscapers near my driveway--where delivery drivers typically pull in--and had no idea he was there. When I approached his vehicle and knocked on his window, thinking he was lost or something, he stated he was delivering for Total Wine and needed my license. Given that I am currently disabled and recovering from shoulder surgery, I politely asked if he could bring the order to my door, as most drivers do. He showed no willingness to help. I went inside to quickly retrieve my license, and within what could not have been more than 45 seconds, he had already left. The order was marked "missed delivery" and returned--despite the fact that I had made contact and was actively completing the process. When I called customer support, I was told the best they could do was reschedule for the next day--completely unacceptable given that my event was starting within hours. The store was equally unhelpful, offering only to have me reorder (including paying delivery and tip again), with no effort to resolve the situation in real time--even though the driver was likely still nearby. As a result, we had to scramble and send someone to another store during the event to salvage the situation. This was not about the cost--it was about reliability, professionalism, and basic customer service. read more

Where do I even start, if you want to be treated disrespectfully and want bad customer service come here! "Darcy" was our cashier and let's just say she extremely prejudice and profiled us. I came in with my boyfriend and little sister. Me and my boyfriend are both 21 and my sister is underage. Their "so called rule" (that they put in fine print on their door) is that anyone under 21 has to be accompanied by "a legal guardian". I indeed am her legal guardian.... never assume anyone's situation. And that's exactly what Darcy did. She went as far as giving me attitude and fighting with me about how I should've left her in the car and we literally had a 20 min "talk" about the safety of shrewsbury. My family traumatized by a recent shooting in the area is not going to leave her in a car or at home alone. But Darcy instead liked to profile, judge and roll her eyes and fight with me denying our service. DISGUSTING behavior. Don't even get me started about the so called "manager" at the time named "chip". My mom called to talk to the employees about how they treated us and why and chip was probably even ruder than Darcy... which I couldn't think was possible. Yelling over my mom the entire call not listening to a word she's said my mom seriously couldn't even get a word out we were SHOCKED.... Just absolutely vile behavior once again. To begin, this is a corporate national chain, so if you have a problem, forget it, they don't care. I called an never heard back. Here's the bizarre situation I ran into at the Shrewsbury, MA store. I've purchased here often before this incident, but no longer, I'll use local stores like Austin Liquors or regional Wegmans, they respect customers as normally expected. Anyway, I went into the store for boxes for a room being painted at our house, liquor boxes are good for packing glassware and breakables. I knew they have them at the front of the store, probably 150 boxes or more. It looks kind of ratty and ghetto-ish, but it's convenient. I grabbed a couple boxes, and a surly manager, who turned out to be the store manager Bob, told me the boxes were only for customers. I told him I buy there, but obviously not right now, I'm busy getting boxes. Now mind you, he was ripping up some of these very boxes and trashing them right in front of me, and well...they're just cheap cardboard boxes. He grudgingly allowed me to take two boxes...LOL.. cardboard boxes!?! I took them out to my car and returned to complain to another manager and was told they didn't mind if I took some more boxes (I didn't know the idiot was the store manager at the time). I went over to get more boxes, and Box Bob yelled across a couple of aisles not to take boxes -- this sounds crazy and unprofessional, especially from a manager and oh so customer friendly, but it's true. He then proceeded to get in my face, so I quickly grabbed a couple more and left. And it didn't look like he was having a bad day, he acted like he did this all the time.. what a loser. And how could a store have someone this unprofessional even as a regular employee, let alone a store manager. Maybe he has a relative who got him the job, or he's a great conman..dunno. As soon as you walk in you're attacked by aggressive men trying to bait-and-switch you into "a better cheaper wine." I've never seen/heard of any of these wineries, and truly believe they are generic house brands sold only by Total Wine. Total wine and more is like the supermarkets of liquor/beer/wine stores. I thought BevMo in California was the reigning champion for that kind of selection in a chain store. But Total Wine & More proved me wrong. At this point, I've only visited the Shrewsbury store, but others I have seen from the outside look equally as massive. Walking into the Shrewsbury location, you'll immediately see giant aisles full of wine. I'm not a wine drinker but speculate this has to be overwhelming even for regular drinkers. My partner was with me and she was looking for Rieslings. Their selection was much bigger than any I've seen at other stores and with very reputable varieties. Not only that, but the pricing for ones also available at target were cheaper at Total Wine! I was looking for beer, that is, local ipas, and was also not disappointed. Rather, similar to the wine, I was pretty overwhelmed. A long aisle awaits towards the back of the store with both a very good local and regional selection, and even beers from the west coast that I haven't seen otherwise. I was about to make my choice when I saw on the opposite wall that they also have a mix and match option for cans and bottles. That lengthened the amount of time needed to select my beer much longer but resulted in 4 different beers that were much enjoyed. We also checked out some of the spirits selections, particularly rum. Again, I've never seen such a huge selection and varieties that I didn't know existed. Especially on the west coast, you don't tend to get a lot of diversity at stores with rum. But at Total Wine, they had several local/regional varieties in addition to your staples. Knowing there's a location closer to where I'm normally based, I'm excited to check it out to see how it compares. But if you have one nearby, I highly recommend you stop by for any of your alcoholic beverage needs. read more

They have a tremendous selection of wine, craft beer, ciders, imports, from all around the world! There are a variety of products you can't find anywhere else. BeerLao of Laos is one of my favorite casual drinking beers ever and they do sell it. One of these best service they offer is if you have a certain brand in mind, they can make a special order just for you. Always very pristine and organized inside, and the employees are all professional and very knowledgeable whether it's for wine, liquor, beer, even cigars! Almost gave this place one less star for a shady practice they have of placing signs out in front of the bottles of wine on the shelf announcing their ratings. All good, in practice, however I noticed 3 expensive (ish) bottles which were advertised rated above a 94 yet a little research showed that the stellar review was from a previous year. Anyone who knows anything about wine knows one year to the next is incredibly different. In fact, one bottle which was advertised as a 96 rating in wine advocate was a year off ... The year before the 96 was a 92 rating ... When you pay $50 for a bottle of wine, a 96 rating vs. 92 rating is like advertising a Porsche but trying to sell a Lexus. Sneaky ... I gave them 4 stars however due to the selection, ease of finding things and their value. Many will remember upon opening their MA locations, they were actually sanctioned for selling wine below the invoice prices. (They claimed this had to do with volume credits that they applied to later shipments ... Most retailers who get these credits apparently use them as profit whereas TWM uses them to buy more volume which passes savings on to the consumer. I can't argue with a business that is accused of selling things TOO cheap because it's 'not fair' to the smaller merchants. Hey, if I can get an incredible discount ... let the smaller shops figure out how to compete. Don't stick me with higher prices. So with apologies to the smaller shops, I'd rather buy my wine here at greater discounts. This chain is one of, if not the, largest wine retailer in the US. At least I think I heard that. $2.5 billion business. Wow. They have everything from high end liquor (they sell $4,000 bottles of Petrus wine) to the cheap bottles of Barefoot that really shouldn't classify much higher than prison hooch. The store is clean, new and well laid out and if you know what's a good deal you can pick out some great wine and save on it! The NH state liquor stores use the trick where they tell you a bottle is $30 off only to find out their 'retail' comparison price' is $25 higher than the actual retail at most places, meaning you save $5 on a $50 bottle of wine which they say retails for $90. To my experience TWM does not do those shenanigans. The sale price is actually a sale and the 'retail' prices are often at or only slightly above the lowest price you can find online. The bottles with a .97 ending price cannot be combined with their buy 6 bottles get 10% discount ... So that's a good indication that those bottles are at the lowest possible price the law allows/invoice price. So you pay what they pay. Those are the bottles I look for, ending in .97, if not buying 6 at a time. Not a fan of the ratings screw job ... But all in all, this place is pretty amazing. Why shop elsewhere? The selection is great ... They even have reasonably priced small bottles of good stuff. Julio's Liquor in Westborough has some amazing flash sale bargains but on the whole it's much more expensive than TWM. Wegmans in Northborough also has some decent deals. But TWM seems to save you a few bucks across the board. It's like the Cosco of liquor stores without the membership fee. read more

I am often in the Shrewsbury Total Wine, and have noticed a concerning trend; male staff hang out in the wine or spirit section, supposedly available to help customers, while the women run the cash registers. I mentioned this observation to the women at the registers who said that they were both supposed to be on the floor but whenever the need arises for cashiers its the women who are reassigned. I am curious; do you think men know more about spirits, wine and beer, or do you think customers respond better to men talking about wine, spirits and beer. The team member, male, who I asked a beer question to was clueless and said, "Well, let's read the box." I do not consider this adequate customer service, nor is the clumping of male staff together in the center of the store overly encouraging. It is 2024, not 1954. If management tolerates this gender segregation, I am wondering the last time they audited the gap between men and women staff pay. Let's get with the gender equity program here, people! read more

WATCH YOUR BACKS AT THIS LOCATION......some of the young workers are careless I just spent $122.34 at this location. Ticket:138489 Store:1703 Cashier:32399 and I left absolutely FURIOUS!!!!! My partner and I were in the beer aisle looking for a specific one and all of a sudden my partner lets outs a reaction and jumps to right and her reaction made me gasp and jump to the left because AN ENTIRE BOX OF BOTTLED WINE FALLS FROM THE VERY TOP RACKS due to inattentive worker who is on the other side of the isle on what may be called a cherry picker machine overstacking boxes up there and pushes that stack to make this particular box fall onto our side of the isle and it SMASHED right between us!!! wine and pieces of glass everywhere. All over my partners legs and feet, my shoes and pants!! My partner had a very small cut on the top of her foot since she was wearing Sandals and had a very small piece of glass there. IF my partner didn't react the way she did that wine box would've smashed right on top of us. And that would've been a very very very bad situation for everyone. The worker who wasn't paying attention was dumbfounded and at one point was giggling about it with another worker like he was high. That got me even more angry!!! Only ONE worker was concerned of our safety. I just couldn't believe the carelessness this one worker had. I was in so much shock I couldn't even speak because I just couldn't believe that would happen to us. I honestly don't even know why I bought the stuff, I should've taken my business else where at that point but I was so numb. Just watch your back here. The staff are very kind but could be more accommodating when it comes to locating specific items within the store. This is quite possibly the best Total Wine I've ever been in. I was shopping for a lot of beer and wine for a party and I definitely found more than I bargained for. I was immediately greeted by staff telling me about 15% off specials on various wines. It was extremely busy when I went which made parking kind of impossible to come by. They've got an excellent selection of wines as well as craft beer and spirits. I particularly liked the selection of whiskeys ranging from $30-400. So much to choose from at this store. You want a bordeaux red from the 1970s? Yep. You want Carlo Rossi $5 gallons. Sure why not homegirl? oh cans and boxes too for a backyard wedding in Arkansas too. Beer? Everything any anything imported, domestic and otherwise noted. Overpriced, but you'll find Malbec and Mead to Trappists next to Bud Light lime here friends. All the boozes and liquors & liqueurs one could think of and quite a but of last min accessories like ice buckets, bottle openers, wide and wonderful selection of mixers, juices and garnishes.... large and small, cups, both disposable and permanent and JUST before the checkout a marvelous selection of nips that you can pick yourself! No asking for them behind the counter! They do grill you pretty hard about the ID, but honestly how can you be a dick about this? Went to get a birthday gift for my girlfriends mother who is an avid wine drinker. Of course, my girlfriend, who is 19, accompanied me, like she does at every other wine/spirit store. We shopped around for about a half an hour and settled on a wine. We proceeded to the register to which the cashier (who was under 21) demanded both of our IDs. I was confused as my girlfriend wasn't the one carrying the alcohol or purchasing the alcohol, and literally had nothing to do with the purchase other than being with me in the store. I explained my girlfriend was 19 and wasn't purchasing alcohol and that seeing her ID wasn't necessary and she wasn't the person purchasing anything. The cashier then proceeded to get the manager, Mike (I believe), who then informed me Massachusetts enforces a law that prohibits the sale of alcohol to anyone accompanied by a person under the age of 21. Now this is the first time I've ever encountered such an absurd "law" in my life. I calmly asked "When did Massachusetts pass this law?" And he replied "it's been around as long as I can remember. Whether other stores enforce it or not is their problem." We were denied our purchase and were told to leave the store. Irritated, I began to do some research on this and see the validity in his statement. Well, Mike, their is no such law that I can find on any government website. I've spoken to multiple associates who are in law enforcement and they all agreed that it is a law that is nonexistent. This place discriminated against my girlfriend and I because we are two younger looking individuals who were buying roughly $60 in alcohol and probably assumed we were "up to no good". So good job, Mike. You lost a $60 sale and a customer, and hopefully many more customers if anyone else reads this review. As a side note, if anyone can show me viable proof that this law exists, please do! I'd love to be proven wrong. AVOID TOTAL WINE. read more

Stumbled in here last weekend by chance, hoping that they would have a decent selection of craft beer. I was NOT expecting beer nirvana! The sheer volume of beer that they had was astonishing! It took me about 45 minutes to carefully browse the well marked shelves, looking for my pot of hoppy gold. Prices were a TAD higher (like a buck) than I've seen at other smaller stores, but I'll gladly pay that small premium for the selection they offer. Even though I was there strictly for ale, I should note that they also had a ton of liquor and wine. I can't fathom a person coming in here and not being able to find something to his/her taste. Very impressive display of a wide range of products. What was truly unusual is they offered samples of many products right then and there, in the store, while shopping. Lots of promotional deals and supportive staff to answer questions and help the consumer along to a nice pleasant shopping experience. Prices are beyond competitive and make for a worth-the-while trip, to go the distance, shopping large and small alike. We definitely will come back to stock up once existing stock is down. I've been coming to this location for years. Their selection was always good and their staff were knowledgeable, but recently I've had issues with their ID policy being applied. I have no problem showing ID when purchasing alcohol. But when I am purchasing no alcohol (this is the only place I can reliably find fever tree ginger beer, for example), I do not understand why they need to see my ID. A recent medical diagnosis has left me unable to consume alcohol, so lately I have been sampling their variety of non-alcoholic beers. Get carded every time. When I ask why they card for non-alcoholic products, I am told it is because "you need to be 21 to come into the store", or "the system won't let us scan without entering a birthdate". Regarding the former, I dare say I do not look like a high schooler. Regarding the latter, I didn't see the cashier card the person in front of me, nor did I see her enter my DOB before she scanned my purchase. If you want to have an ID policy, apply it consistently. Being carded for non-alcoholic beer just adds insult to injury, reminding me that I will likely never enjoy a real beer again. Not happy. read more

They have such a large variety to pick from and all my favorite wines and hard ciders are available here. One stop shop.
