My own dealing with Steve started after my daughters car developed a fault and became un-drivable, we had it towed to our local garage who suggested a new engine at £2,600. This in addition to the £800 we had already incurred whilst they examined the engine. They suggested other options like the possibility of total engine re-build etc. Frankly I wasn't happy with their inconsistent and dubious approach, so started to look else-where. Paid them £800 and brought the car home. Called many garages and engine reconditioning firms, looked at on-line reviews all with that sinking feeling. Having previously left a message on Northern Roads answering machine, Steve called back and asked about the situation and symptoms etc, offered to pop round the following day as he was in the area and take a look at the engine. We looked at the engine, now in bits and he explained his thinking, observations and showed me the parts in question, it all fitted together logically. He was really helpful, the only person who I really had any trust in and took the time to talk through the options. I asked him to take the car, investigate and we could decide how best to proceed. As it paned-out the engine damage wasn't as extensive as the previous garage had lead me to believe. The cost was only a little more that I was charged for the original inspection, best decision I have ever made, I can thoroughly recommend Steve and Northern Road (Service & Engineering) Centre Ltd. I went to MAC Motors after other garages claimed they couldn't replace my CAM belt due to overtightened bolts, electrical difficulties and suspension problems. We had many frank and honest conversations about the cost, whether worth doing to age of my car, the risk of further issues and for once I didn't feel patronised or talked down to because I was a woman. They tackled and sorted each problem in stages so I could evaluate costs/next steps and have done an excellent job. My 2012 SMAXX now drives beautifully and I feel assured that I've done the right thing spending money on it rather than investing in a new car. I had my wheels done recently in the same building as this so decide to have tyres done as well…read moremake my car look good, i thought they were going to be really expensive but found him to be really competitive on prices in fact cheaper than the others that quoted me. I also had my wheel aligment done as i had just had the complete wheel change done and it only cost me £35 fantastic, but while it was on the ramp he checked over my brakes and suspension for me and advised on future work, which i will definately be going back to him for as he was so honest with me and didnt try to confuse me with science.

After having about a tenth of the things fixed that they originally stated needing doing, the car passed it's MOT with flying colours.
