I booked a service and then took the car in early because the engine maintenance light came on. First I was accused of "thrashing the car down the motorway" and they told me there was moisture in the engine.
At my service I was given a long list of items that had to be changed, or it would "never pass an M.O.T". I decided to get a second opinion and despite the fact they carried out next to no work, I was still charged full price for the service. All of the extra items I was told needed changing would come to a total of almost £700 without the M.O.T.
At the second garage, I provided the service report from Formula 1. They did a second service check for free and told me FORMULA 1 HAD LIED on the first check - the tread on my tires was a legal 2.2 rather than the 1.6 they had marked on the report, the brake fluid was NOT leaking, the roll bar did not need replacing and there was no moisture in the engine. They deciphered immediately that the engine maintenance light had come on because of the clutch misfiring; Formula 1 had not even noticed this.
The second garage could have charged me to replace the clutch but they were honest and explained that it didn't need replacing immediately. The total cost of the work I needed came to less than £300.
Formula 1 were going to over charge and they actually lied to me. I will NEVER use this garage again.
