Whatever you do, don't buy your glasses here! Dr. Branch seems very nice, and the eye exam was fine. I needed bifocals. Dr. Branch suggested progressive lenses. He showed me a picture of the three choices for progressive lenses with good, better, and best choices. The best option was the only one with no distortion in the upper part of the lens, so that is what i ordered (with anti-reflective coating, scratch resistance, and the exam, $656). When I received the glasses, they seemed very blurry, but the lady said to wear them a few days so my eyes could adjust. I did. I noticed that the blur was so bad on the top part of the lens that I couldn't read a computer screen or even a book without moving my head back and forth. The only clear part was straight down the middle. I returned to their office with the glasses. I showed them that the lens distortion was way worse than even the "good" option, and was certainly nothing close to the "best" option. Dr. Branch said the lady who deals with the lenses wasn't in that day, and he would consult her the next day. I never got a call. When I tried to call a couple different times, during business hours, it went straight to voicemail. When I followed the prompts, it took me back to the first message, or to the phone of some random doctor. I had to go back in. I found out they had sent the lenses back and were going to give me progressives again, even though the doctor agreed with me that the technology wasn't there yet to be able to do it right. How on earth do they expect anyone to function without peripheral vision?
I told them to order the lenses with regular lined bifocals. Finally, the glasses were ready. I went in to pick them up and asked about a refund for the difference in cost between regular bifocals and progressives. The lady said they don't give refunds. The lab made the progressive lenses and I took possession, so I have to pay for them. She said it's called something like non adjustment. Meaning, the lenses were fine, I just couldn't adjust to them. They were blurred out on the upper part of the lens except a thin strip in the middle. How could anyone adjust to that? I told her it wasn't non adjustment, it was false advertising, since the "best" option's picture showed no distortion in the upper part of the lens. She said to give her 24 hours before posting a negative review. As usual for this place, I've heard nothing.
I don't know for sure that this place is running a scam on the elderly, but I think it is possible. I'm going to look into it more and check with the better business bureau. The bottom line is, if you order glasses with them, know up front that there are no refunds, regardless of whether they produce a usable product or not. And never order progressive lenses! read more
