The prices are really reasonable and they use pretty quality dyes and sterilize all their equipment. They run a pretty tight ship here, so they would have to being smack bang in the UQ union. A lot of traffic go through here, and these ladies are nothing but professional. A staple in the union outlasting many others.

Here are some great things about ARC: + Gary is an excellent stylist and has a tops accent (Welsh?) + the washbasin seats are ACTUALLY PROPERLY COMFORTABLE + wine bar, for real (Oyster Bay!) + everyone is super friendly + the trashy magazines are this week's and not from six months ago + surprise pretzels and rice cracker snacks! + Kevin Murphy hair products, which are sulphate free and have essential oils so they smell INCREDIBLE + buzz in for parking onsite behind a boom gate (great for the busy Racecourse Rd) I went in with a deal voucher but was treated wonderfully. My bright blue bits in my hair had significantly faded, but I am used to most hairdressers not having any decent blue in stock - not at ARC. Gary enthusiastically rifled through some drawers and pulled out a bunch of colours, including a "peacock blue" that worked perfectly. Totally stoked. The colour touch-up didn't cost me an arm and a leg, though it did cost Gary his hands - they were stained bright blue because he hadn't worn gloves. "I look like a smurf!" Four stars because their website isn't quite up to date as far as their current wine bar menu. The cocktail list has been significantly cut down since ARC opened, so no negroni for me. (I settled for a cosmopolitan and it was delicious.) I walked out of ARC with a handful of "refer a friend" cards. They didn't push them on me, I asked for them. But nothing is better to ease the nerves of visiting a new hairdresser than a nice glass of wine. Or champagne. Or Amaretto Sour. Or Cosmopolitan. Or beer. Ok ok. Fantastic beverages aside (cocktails are $15, and are actually pretty darn tasty, considering it's not technically a bar), the hairdressers are pretty darn talented too. Even though I was just having a wash and a trim, the other patrons were leaving with some nicely styled cuts. They offer special packages, from a simple treatment and style blow-dry, through to a full head of foils and a treatment. Cuts and foils are on the expensive side, but if you're willing to spend the money, it is definitely worth it. Especially if you're feeling a tad thirsty.

I was right about the last one but wrong about the first two. I pessimistically began searching and randomly came across this business. I was in love with their price list so I called and made a booking. This lady was amazing, incredibly fast and even more thorough. It is located at her house (I guess it's her house), which intimidated me a little at first. But once I walked up the stairs towards the front door I discovered a neat little studio off to one side, entirely separate from the house and very professionally set up. She also had a TV to distract me from the pain she was inflicting. Along with waxing every part of a woman's body imaginable, she does men's waxing, spray tans and even teeth whitening. (I can fairly confidently say that this little section of shops has solidified itself as my favourite section of the shopping complex.) I ducked my head into Jurlique a couple of weeks ago on the hunt for some samples, because heck knows when you're looking for a new beauty product the last thing you want to do is commit too much money to a product you're even not sure will work for you! Still, Sarah at Jurlique was incredible and I ended up walking out of the store feeling happy with my decision to purchase a full skincare routine - a cleanser and moisturiser, with a bonus free pack of a toner, serum and hand cream. I took the plunge because Sarah provided such excellent customer service, including reassuring me that even if after a couple of weeks the products weren't working for me, I could return them to the store for an exchange or credit. With my anxiety over products being right for me, that reassurance was exactly what I needed to hear. Aside from all that, Jurlique's products themselves are really beautiful. They all smell so great and the natural ingredients used in their products come from Jurlique's very own organic, bio-dynamic farm down in South Australia. I love that. I'm happy to know that the products I'm using aren't loaded with chemicals, and after a couple of weeks of regular use I'm starting to notice the change in my skin that I was hoping for. I'll be headed back in to Jurlique again soon to take advantage of the offer of a free facial that I received as part of my purchase, too - the Carindale store is one of only two Jurlique Concept stores in QLD, which means that not only do they sell their beautiful products there, but they also offer a spa experience, with facials and massages in-store utilising their gorgeous range of products. Annie and her team are always soooo gentle, generous and really professional. Which is what you want in any beauty services. The small space faces on to a lovely leafy courtyard around the corner of the shops. It's quiet and unique in shopping centres. Smooth offers high level skin management techniques and all the normal waxing, colouring and massages. I love the interior with it's original Carrey Smith artworks. You can disappear from life for awhile in here and it's just divine. Prices are really reasonable and Annie is very generous with her time when giving advice. LOVE it
