Not so many fish shops in Nørrebro, so it's nice to know that a reliable one is in the vicinity.
As soon as I walked in, I was greeted by the fishmonger and NOT by the stink of fish; a good sign. I came here because I was craving sashimi, so I was a little disappointed at the selection. There is actually only one glass display for fresh fish and the other is for smoked or otherwise prepared seafood like pickled herring. Not much variety compared to the ones Torvehallerne, but I did appreciate the method of catch noted on each item and the fact that it seemed to be only species in season like mussels, mackerel, and cod. No eel, which is good. Since to'sk seems to keep sustainability and seasons in mind, I am actually glad that they have a smaller selection.
There was some sushi-grade salmon in the freezer so I chose one that seemed a suitable size. The scallops also looked great but the fishmonger warned that I should freeze them for at least 24 hours if I wanted to eat them raw. Good advice. I also picked up one fresh mackerel, which was gutted and cleaned for me swiftly. Everything was packed nicely and I feel I got a fair price for it.
I ended up marinating the mackerel for shime saba and it turned out very well. However, I was a little surprised when I unwrapped the salmon; it still had the skin on. If it was intended for sushi, I feel like the skin should already have been removed. It was no problem for me to do so myself, but I would rather pay for more flesh than skin. Other than that, the seafood was great. Looking forward to my next visit. read more
