I dare you to find an ugly label in here. The owners - a well traveled Danish couple - are happy to sniff out the perfect bottle for you and your needs. I was delighted to find some pinots from Oregon and reds from Washington here, rare finds in Copenhagen. They have something for everyone and love chatting about their offerings. Charming letterpressed cards and sayings fill the shop making the experience charming and enjoyable. You won't find many bottles under DKK100, but you can leave with the knowledge that your purchase was carefully selected for you. Ask for help, they are happy to give - super customer service.

Good space inside and they have outdoor seating along the lake when the weather is nice. Cool wooden bar with 20 taps and lots more bottled options. I prefer the porters they have on tap, boyfriend likes the IPAs, and everyone seems to like the Weihenstephan (I wish they had more wheat beers on tap). Cozy and dark with lots of candles (similar to their Ørsted location). Two very comfortable red armchairs at the front, and lots of less comfortable wooden chairs everywhere else. There's a sunken second room which makes me feel claustrophobic, but which others might call cozy...to each their own. Occasionally there's a California girl working at the bar, who is super sweet and helpful.

But that doesn't scan quite as well does it? Maybe it's the friendliness of the Danish people but you get treated well, without the false feeling that you get in America. Until my wife stumbles across this review... Some of the concoctions on sale are made by themselves, some are made by others & rebottled by them. Or some are just drinks that are seemingly rare in this part of the world, but are common to many of us. Either way they sell great grogg with a friendly nature. The aquavit they had was a rare transparent & incredibly smooth blend. That as soon as the first drop hit my tongue I knew I was going to but it. Same goes for the home distilled local liquor that my tried, but whose name evades me at this moment... (it must be the booze) Anyways it was a great place to find & a happy end to a failed search of a seemingly none existent flea market that was supposed to be in the area.

He was very educated on his whiskeys, and added to our wonderful experience. Unfortunately, Danish whiskeys are still too young to enjoy, so we sipped on a few imported Scottish and Spanish ones. I first visited Shoppen last year when I wanted to get my mezcal-loving husband a birthday gift. I did a little research before I went to the store but was still overwhelmed by their selection. The gentleman working there was incredibly helpful and tried his best to recommend something in my price range. I ended up getting a sample pack of mezcals that Shoppen makes themselves and had a very happy husband. Fast forward to today, I finally got around to re-visiting Shoppen but this time with my husband in tow. Again, the gentleman working there (different from last time) was incredibly helpful and really knew his stuff. He even let my husband try a little sample before purchasing. I have to note that I have not checked out their beer section nor their other spirits, but from a glance, their selection seems to also be pretty extensive. This place is serious when it comes to spirits but they aren't pretentious. They aren't cheap either but again, they hand select (and even import themselves) each and every item in their store, so you will for sure be getting top quality stuff. The super friendly staff is often replaced by an I-can't-be-bothered attitude... and it's sad, as this used to be a little pearl in world of bad service Copenhagen...
