Yes, it's touristy, and yes, you've seen a thousand photos of it, but seeing it in person still hits differently than you'd expect. There's something about the scale and the actual lean that photos just don't capture. Getting there is easy too: a short train ride to the nearby station and a few blocks' walk puts you right at the Piazza dei Miracoli. Buy your tickets online ahead of time though, only 45 people go up at a time and the walk-up queue can get brutal.

Read about this place for years and JH was amazing to actually be there. It's big and there are other buildings part of the enclosed area such as several beautiful churches and statues. Tons of souvenir shops and places to take photos. We were on our way from Florence to the country side and stopped by. Worth it. 5.

It's definitely touristy, but a must-do when in the area! It's quick to check out, but it is so much different to see in person, compared to many years of seeing it on TV, in pictures, books, etc. It's actually quite stunning to see this tall tower leaning like it is, it appears it might fall over at any moment, but clearly that's not going to happen, at least no time soon. There are lots of tourist traps all around the area where the tower is, so be prepared to shoe away all the people trying to make a quick buck off of you. Honestly, the area around it is quite unattractive, so becareful. But, go and enjoy the beauty of this tower!

Worth the trip to see this iconic tower. Highly recommend going early. Around 9am is when the big bus groups start coming and it's almost impossible to get a spot for a good picture. Everyone stops in the front of the piazza to take a pic which is great but if you want a picture with less people in it, walk around to the back side of the tower. Walk around the souvenir vendors to compare prices. They all have the same stuff but some charge $3 for a magnet that you can get the same one for $1 at the next booth.

This is the thing to do in Pisa. It is a timed entry to climb up to the top of the tower. I recommend going up if it's your first time! It's something to experience. I highly recommend buying tickets ahead of time. You never know how crowded it will be. The ticket comes with a free pass to get into the cathedral. The ticket to go up the tower itself is €20 per person. The floor is uneven and slippery. According to the official website, "the visit takes about 30 minutes. The climb is on foot and there are 251 steps." At the top you will want to take photos. Most likely people are getting off at Pisa Central Station by train. From there, you can take the public bus here. My group didn't want to walk 22-25 minutes, so we called an Uber.

MAMMA MIA.... the leaning tower of Pisa!! I didn't climb up it...it's leaning and I'm over 60 [LOL!] And, it's just a hollow cylinder basically with a nice view of the surrounding area. Which is nice too see from above I'm sure. [It's not free to climb, I think 10 euros] The history of this place...the architect built it on sand and clay which obviously was too soft a ground, hence the lean. However, it was restored in the 1990's

I finally made it here! been to Livorno in the past and use didn't make it to Pisa. on this trip we made sure to book an excursion that included a stop at the famous leaning tower. ya ya yay...I've heard that it's not impressive and it's Just a tower in the middle of a field. I guess I'm glad that it was downplayed because I was very happy to have come. it was beyond hot it was crowded it was touristy.. but I finally saw the leaning tower of Pisa that I saw on the bugs bunny show when I was a kid. checked that off my tourist bucket list.

So fun and the architecture was absolutely beautiful. The buildings are so ornate and in great condition. Of course we had to take pictures with the leaning tower of Pisa but the funnest part was watching everyone doing it. Some poses were hilarious. If you want to climb up to the top of the Leaning tower, you should book your tickets online before arrival. There are lockers for rent for your purses, etc. There are shops catering to tourists with souvenir shops, gelato shops, a museum, and a visitor info center. We got some good bargains on souvenirs and hats at the mini market in front of the gate, before you enter.

While in Italy my wife and I visited the Tower of Pisa. We purchased tickets online a few months earlier so we wouldn't have to spend time in lines. Pisa was very fun to visit especially after seeing on the television for most my life. Be prepared to take several pictures. Once inside be prepared to spend a thirty minutes to an hour climbing up the stairs and taking pictures.

The tower. 7 bells on top.

A must see sight if visiting Italy Seeing the infamous tower, and learning it's history is fascinating. While also learning history of the area. One recommendation is don't take a bus tour. The buses are crowded and dirty. Arrange a private tour if you can.

It costs about €20 to climb the tower if you pay the ticket onsite, and early reservation with premium is still necessary to reserve your desired time spots during peak season. The time stamped ticket for entrance is every 15 minutes. It generally takes 30 minutes to go up and down, including checking views and taking photos. I was in a rush to take connecting train, and it only took 20 minutes in total from the first step up and last step down. If you are in a situation like me, and I think it's still doable, although I would still recommend planning at least one hour to be chill. The climbing itself is interesting, and your body can literally feel the slope and leaning to the side of the wall inside.

The leaning tower of Pisa, a structure I read about as a child in school, but never thought I would have the opportunity to see it first-hand. Tickets are usually purchased online with a time and day selection. There is a line for groups every 15 minutes. No bags or purses are allowed, and must be stored in a free locker near the souviner shop. The walk up to the bell tower was challenging to many in the group, steps are narrow and of course, lean to the right direction, causing people to lose their balance and needing to hold on the wall for support. Its a decent workout to get to the top, so start training on a stair stepping machine before you book your tickets. Parking is difficult and you willl most likely walk a good distance to the tower, based on where you find free parking. Lots of vendors selling knock off merchandise so buyer beware.

We only had about 4 hours in Pisa before we had to head back to our train, so we made our way directly toward the Piazza dei Miracoli - and it was awe inspiring! Such beauty and history to explore, in the Tower, Cathedral, the Baptistery, etc. Do not stick only to the Tower (and don't do the touristy photo op of "holding the tower up") I highly recommend going into the Cathedral and taking a walk around the inside. Beautiful artwork and architecture inside there. If you aren't able to climb the Campanile (leaning tower) - physically unable to, fear of heights, not enough time, etc - I still recommend this stop in Pisa. The Tower is beautiful from the outside too, if you aren't able to go inside/up, and the other buildings of the Piazza are worth the trip by themselves! One tip: you cannot see the Leaning Tower or any other of the Piazza dei Miracoli buildings by driving by or standing outside on the street. You have to go through a small marketplace of vendors to get to the archway entry. Once inside the entryway, that is where you will see the buildings you are looking for. Have fun!

If you want to head inside many of the buildings, you can buy tickets at the official site (https://www.opapisa.it/en). Because there was no special exhibit happening during January 2024 (which is definitely the low season for this part of the world), there were six permanent buildings that you can enter: 1. Tower 2. Baptistery 3. Camposanto 4. Cathedral 5. Opera Del Duomo Museum 6. Sinopie Museum. For 2024, prices are 27€ each for the entire experience. Separately, it is 20€ for just the tower, 10€ for everything else. Or a la carte, 7€ each (except the Cathedral which is free, but still requires a complementary ticket acquired at the ticket office the day of). We got the entire experience, and that definitely is the way to go if you intend to stay for a 1/2 day visit. The Tower opens at 9, and the others soon after. It was very sparse at that time, but definitely got busier by lunchtime. But even then, there were hardly any lines anywhere. And because it was a Sunday, Roman Catholic masses were occurring throughout the morning and early afternoon, which you can attend. Definitely would recommend spending 1/2 of a day here, and soaking up the history.
