It was worth a visit because this was by far the most lavish tasting room we encountered in our 3 days in Tuscany.

Thankfully, if your group isn't particularly lucky during the hunt, they keep a reserve of fresh truffles on hand so you can still fully enjoy the truffle lunch experience. Nonna Roberta prepares the food herself, and honestly, if I were Italian, I'd want a Nonna just like her! The meals were amazing, and there was no shortage of truffles. I visited Italy via a group called AHI travel. They coordinated the visit with about 20 participants. The tour began with a viewing of the wine cellar, wine barrels, bottling room and ended in the tasting room, a nice lodge-like area. We were able to taste 3 wines, including their famous Brunello and my favorite, the Alte d'Altesi, and indulge in a beautiful spread of bruschetta, prosciutto, pecorina cheese and olive oil. Their olive oil was also made on the property and available for sale. I ended up purchasing a bottle of wine and small container of olive oil so I could continue to enjoy my experience when I returned to New York. Altesino's had great products and inviting hospitality. I would note, if you are visiting on your own the drive up the curvy hills could be intimidating!

We tried Rosso di Montalcino DOC, Brunello di Montalcino DOCG & Super Tuscan IGT. We ended up buying the Brunello and Brunello Gold for 25 and 50 Euro each. She was kind enough to waive the tour and tasting fee for us.

The wine tasting room is the most impressive/ interesting as is their landscape with several very very old olive trees. The cellars themselves are ok, but the ancient cellars in montepulciano at other wineries are much more impressive. Nonetheless, the wine tasting is quite in depth and unique, although at 20€ it's quite steep while the wine is only ok tasting. Lastly to get here you have to drive on a very bad gravel road for a long time, something like 45 minutes so plan your visit accordingly.

An organic, biodynamic microwinery... Piombaia. They still make their wine the old fashioned way. Hand-selected grapes, manual wine press, bottling, etc. With a production of only around 8,000 bottles a year, it is truly a small, family operation. And the wine? Oh, the wine! From their signature Brunello to their Gatto Nero, it is all absolutely fantastic. Whatever you do, call ahead. It is not the kind of place with a manned store. This is a home, so reservations are a very good idea here.

Money were paid 12/07/16 according to the provided "tracking documents" the vine reached the wharehouse 1/7/16 (12 days before I have ordered it!!!!). And it is "still" there. After I asked for refund I was told that they get no refunds, when I promised to go to police they have just stopped answering my email. They hope that you would never return to Mintalcino if you are ordering wine to be delivered to the USA. Keep away from the thieves and have a nice vacation.
