This is my favorite place to get a lot of my daily grocery items from. Th staff have been great and my son loves the small kid carts there.

Pacemaker Jr. is THE grocery store in the Durand, IL area. Unless, of course, you want to drive…read moreall the way into Pecatonica or Rockford the next time you are missing a cup of sugar or a stick of butter while you're in the process of cooking dinner. This area of the country is beautiful, acres and acres of tall corn plants and the Lake Summerset gated community with its beautiful lakeside scenery. Unfortunately it is not close to much in the way of shopping, so where are you going to pick up grocery staples or munchies in a hurry? Pacemaker Jr., that's where! Are you bored and looking for entertainment? Check out the redbox DVD rental station just inside the doorway. Are your carpets looking a bit bedraggled? Rent a Rug Doctor here and spruce them up a bit. Now, just in case you think this is a grocery store of last resort, you can buy loaves of bread that were baked right here in the store! They'll even slice them for you if you ask nicely. There is a surprisingly good selection of alcohol here. Now, you're not going to find a cucumber vodka or anything quite that specific, but there are still plenty of options to choose from. The produce selection is not quite as extensive as at Valli Produce, but everything here is fresh, ripe, and looks pretty, and covers most of your basic staples. This close to the Wisconsin border you'd be shocked if they didn't carry a wide variety of dairy items and there are no shockers here. There is even a delicatessen with a variety of premade items if you're not in the mood to cook a full meal. The bakery department is small, but is big enough to produce a variety of different types of bread. It may not look like much from the outside, but Pacemaker Jr. fills an important niche serving this farming community and the towns around it admirably.

This store is ALWAYS CLEAN…read more However, they are also EXPENSIVE, and the advertised prices on the shelves are different from what comes up at checkout. I have noticed that I "usually" have to pay attention to the price on the shelf vs. the checkout price. Just today, 4/18/26, I bought Mrs. Fisher's potato chips. Price on the shelf: $3.99. (GREAT DEAL - Which is specifically why I BOUGHT THEM). Price at checkout: $4.69. Customer Service was very nice (Symone). Went to check pricing, came back and said: That's for the smaller bag. My reply: Well, THIS size (1.5lb) is sitting behind the $3.99 tag. She gave me a DOLLAR back immediately. I made $.30. No need to get heated, she was wonderful, so big deal, right? My issue is NOT with her. NO. This is my most recent experience. It's happened before, and I always get a bit more in refund than what's truly the difference. However, THIS HAPPENS A LOT with Schmucks. We rarely shop there due to their being expensive, and this "price hike at checkout". This is actually ILLEGAL in Illinois, and Schmucks seems to make a practice of it. BEWARE SHNUCKS CUSTOMERS in DeKALB......you may be paying more than you legally have to.

I have just one experience with Sullivan's, but it was a REALLY good one!…read more We spent a ridiculous amount of time trying to track down a specific beer. We spent the night in Omaha, and we were seeking any beer with "monkey" in the title - long story, work-related thing. So while we prepared for sleep on the second night of our cross-country journey, he perused local (ish) brewery websites and found one from Tall Grass Brewing in Manhattan KS called Zombie Monkey. He was obsessed with getting it. We called the brewery, who led us to the distributor, whose phones were not working. We went on red alert internet search mode and discovered that Sullivan's might have some. We called and sure enough - two four packs. They kindly agreed to hold them for us. We left Omaha and spent a lovely day finding fun, weird stuff throughout Iowa on our way to Illinois. Along the way, I called a few times to let them know we promised to be there before they closed. Toward the end of the day, we actually had to race to get there on time. The last time I called, at 9:45pm, I explained we were racing to get there before they closed but if we were a minute or two late to PLEASE let us just hand them cash through the door. The guy seemed to know who I was and why I was calling - he was so nice. We got there literally at 10pm on the dot. The guy met my husband at the door, had the beer on ice and ready to go. The guy said, this must be some pretty special beer! My man explained the situation and said they were literally the only place in three states we could find that had it. They were so nice to keep it for us all day, have it ready and cold, and potentially have waited for us. Very sweet people doing their part to make two total strangers very happy. Thanks to everyone at Sullivan's for just being kind.

Many other items that are still in date, but just not right. Last time I shopped there I purchased a bag of frozen shrimp, still in date, but when we opened it up the shrimp were severely freezer burnt. Not a place you can trust that you are getting good product.
