They have everything from Canoes to Dart Boards. Often with cheaper sports shops you sacrifice quality for price but this is not the case at Decathlon. They sell their own brand items called Kipsta and I must say that these aren't great quality but likewise they sell big name brands like Nike and Adidas at a lower price than other High Street stores. This Decathlon is huge - you could spend a full afternoon here wandering through the isles. I would make a list of what you want before visiting or else you'll come out with a new home gym and nowhere to put it. Great parking is also available - really handy if you are buying a bigger item and need to cart to the car.

They have equipment for every sport that you could think of racket sports, Kites, windsurfing, swimming, running, horse riding, boxing, biking etc etc I have bought many items from decathlon and found the quality good enough and all at very reasonable prices. I have bought cycling helmets, gloves, goggles, clothing and ski equipment, many big name brands are available and at better prices than other sports stores. They have a loyalty card scheme too.

So off I set and was amazed to find a large modern shop stocked to the rafters with uniforms for squirrels, beavers, cubs and scouts. They also sell general outdoor and walking equipment, camping gear and wet suits. The majority of the clothes and equipment belong to a world I find quite alien (walking through choice? And not because you have to? What's that all about?) but even I could tell that there is a huge range of sturdy looking coats and boots and back packs. When I went in, I was served quickly and efficiently by a knowledgeable sales assistant and was in and out within minutes with all the stuff I needed. I also made an impulse buy at the till - one of those little hand warmer packets which I tried out on Saturday while watching number two son playing rugby. What a good mummy I am.

The prices seem to be pretty reasonable for rucksacks and walking boots at least, those are the items I noticed in particular. Personally I bought some much needed new gum boots, not very citified or cool, but for me essential for country visits! As you would hope to find at a scout shop, there is a satisfactory selection of traditional camping gear such as torches, cooking utensils, bottles of camping gas and enamel dishes which almost inspires me to plan a camping trip, mad as it may seem to some people.

I have been in this…read moreplace a number of times over the years, being a semi regular visitor to Newry, upon one occasion myself and a chum wandered in off the street on the lookout for ski wear, and the elderly man (who I think is the owner himself) actually said to us "two walking machines is it?" IE what are two fat fuckers doing in here. An IGNORAMUS. On another occasion I had purchased a large item that I had been assured would fit in the back of my Fiesta, after paying for the item and taking it to the car (parked outside the front door) the item would not fit (the sales assistant was adamant it would fit, "sure I have put HUNDREDS of these in the back of cars" What did smart hole do? Left me standing on the road with the item. NO offer to deliver it NO offer to refund the price FUCK ALL. Basically they want to sell you stuff, and get you out the door asap, and to hell with you after they get your money. Smarmy with NO customer service. Cheeky and rude to their customers, overpriced and absolutely NO clue on how to deal with people. As a member of the local community and providing what can only be called an outstanding service to his customers, it is not in his, nor any of his staff's interest to provide a poor service particularly in this economic down turn. My husband I and children have used this shop regularly for over 20 years. We wouldn't dream of buying our ski wear, exercise equipment, or horse riding wear anywhere else. He won't be beaten on quality of product or of service. The owner is a pleasant, charming and a respectful gentleman. He has a great sense of humour that he has developed over the years when relating to customers. He would be deeply offended by your comments if it weren't for the fact that you have categorised yourself with your use of profanity. I would recommend if you have any further issues with shop owners or assistants the mature thing would be to vocalise your issue at the time rather than to go online and make false accusations. The only person you have degraded by your comments is yourself. Jack Smyth's is an excellent shop with an excellent range of products and superb staff that have a vested interest in providing a 5 star service.
