RUN AS FAR AWAY FROM THIS COMPANY AS YOU CAN! To say that their customer service is terrible would be to imply that they actually have any customer service. They are argumentative and threatening toward customers for no reason. They don't care if you have concerns and will start yelling at you if you bring a concern to their attention. I had to hang up on the owner, Koleen, as she was screaming at me and would not listen to anything I was saying. We also had the pleasure of being yelled at and threatened by the other owner, Peter, as well. There is not enough time to detail all of the terrible stress they put us under. But, to provide one example (of MANY), as part of the $16,000 job they did for us, they quoted us for all new soft-close hinges for our cabinet doors. One hour before the installation, Peter sent my husband a text saying that the hinges he ordered were not going to work and he would credit us for the cost. Meanwhile, no one told us to save the old hinges and the workers left them strewn all over the place. Peter told us that he probably could not get new hinges that would work with our cabinets and, even if he did, it was going to cost a fortune. What happened to their original estimate? They are supposed to be the experts. The installation could not happen as planned because we were initially unable to locate all of the original hinges. So, they left the refinished cabinet doors while we went on a hunt for the hinges. Somehow, we managed to locate all of them. In the meantime, Peter was texting us telling us we needed to pay the ~$2,000 balance on our invoice that day (even though the job WAS NOT DONE), or they were going to put a lien on our home. His wife then emailed the invoice to us with a note in all capital letters with the same threat. When we didn't respond to either of these threats, Peter then texted my husband ordering him to call him before the end of the day as he didn't want the situation to escalate. They are the ones that escalated the situation by making these threats. We have had many, many contractors at our home for various repairs and have never, ever been treated so horribly. In fact, we've never even had a minor issue with anyone that we have hired. We are extremely reasonable people. Although the job was eventually completed, there were several areas where we had noted the paint needed to be touched up. They clearly did not care about any of these issues and we just paid the invoice to never have to deal with them again. We were extremely tired of being yelled at and threatened. The whole experience was truly unreal! I fully expect Peter and/or Koleen to comment on this because they LOVE to fight with their customers. Hired this company to paint my newly re-modeled bathrm, and the kitchen ceiling which included patching 4 holes from previous light fixtures. I have been in my home since 1974, and have had many painters come and go, pretty much know what to expect. They emailed me an extensive contract, which I signed...I even joked that I would send them a 5 page contract also... The kitchen ceiling is ok, however, not enough paint on the soffit...a clear line between the cut in and the soffit. Not good coverage at all. However the bathroom was done in 4 hrs./5hrs. or so...meaning none of the first coat had enough drying time...hence, the paint started blistering before the painter even left. Also my brand new pella window frame is a mess...it was smooth, and now it is a lumpy/bumpy mess... The painter took some pics of the problems before he left that day, and sent them to the owner. I waited for a call, it never came. So I figured they were not interested in re-doing the bathrm and cut their losses, and let it go for the $500 deposit. 3 weeks go by, no call, no email. crickets. The other day they called and did not leave a message. I also received an email that day, telling me I was past due on the balance owed. Now this is the really disturbing part...they said they had called numerous times to come out and fix the problem/NOT TRUE. They actually said I was lying about it. Then they said they would be sending it to collections/and put a lien on my house. I was appalled...It's in the contract they said...I am sure it is, they make sure they are covered for every possible event. Never have a skirted a bill etc. in my 75 yrs. And to threaten me on top of calling me a liar, well I have no words. I paid the balance, they forgave me $126, and the interest they said I owed...so, I would warn others here...not a company you would want to do business with. I ran my own successful business for 38 yrs...I know how it should go w/customers. To be treated this way, well it is shocking! Consumers beware!!! If you are looking for an honest company to paint your home look elsewhere. Pete, the owner, is not an honest business man. I asked for all walls, and ceiling's in our home to be painted. No doors or moldings. When the closet walls, and ceilings weren't being painted, I asked why? I was told closets are considered as another room. I told him I was not happy they would not be painted and thought they were included in the "every wall, every ceiling" quote. He said no, that would cost more $$$. I told Top Shelf that this was wrong, and every wall and ceiling should be painted. I then expressed my concerns to the owner Pete that customers should not be taken advantage of. Pete then said this isn't even a very big job, and that ((his)) house was 5,000 square feet. I couldn't believe what I was hearing. I told him he probably got that big house from doing people wrong and charging over and above what the initial quote was. He then hung the phone up on me. It was an awful experience. So very stressful!!! The painters were very nice, and I actually felt bad for them. They were doing a good job. read more

This company is by far the most unprofessional that I've ever come across. Not only were they over an hour late to the job, once there they were louder than some parties I've been to. I made it clear to them that my 3 year old son was upstairs and it did not stop the workers from swearing like sailors the entire day. When he did come downstairs to grab a juice box from the kitchen, he stopped as all kids do to see what the painters were doing. He even asked one of the guys what he was doing and was greeted with a snotty reply to leave him alone and that he was busy. Who greets a child that way? After they finished the job, I went around and found quite a few spots that were either missed or needed touchups. This company was so horrible I declined calling them back to fix those mistakes and instead did it myself. Absolutely unprofessional from start to finish and if i could give negative stars I would. DO NOT HIRE them for anything, I wouldn't even trust them to pick up dog crap. read more

Can't give zero stars, but if i could i would. Pete is so far from a profession business owner. They canceled the job on my 69 year old mother.. Primed our cabinets, took the faces to the shop & then decided to cancel due to "abuse & harassment." Pete did all the harassment, lets be honest. They are NOT honest, they are NOT professional, They LIE, Threaten & all I am here to really say is... DO NOT go with this company. Trust me, save yourself the headache now, I will NEVER recommend this company. Looks like I'm not alone too. Had Top Shelf paint my house last week. The total job came to $4500.00. I requested that they match the paint for the house to my new garage doors was assured that would not be a problem. They ended up painting the house several shades lighter than my garage doors. Very noticeable. When I complained about it they sent Pete out and he 1st told me it was a optical illusion that it was an exact match. Then as we walked around the house he proceeded to tell me it was an exact match just looked different because of the sheen of the paint. When I insisted it was not a match he offered to paint the garage doors with the paint they used on the house. Why would I want my brand new garage doors painted when I purposely bought them that darker color so that when I had my house painted everything would match. I will never use this company again very disappointed that I spent $4500 and they did not paint it the color I requested. We contracted Top Shelf to do some exterior caulking for. The job took a while to get up and running due to weather restrictions. There were several workers sent out at different times. Some of whom were more qualified than others, therefore some of the results were good some quite sloppy. We then noticed areas were not drying quickly as expected and noticed gaps and rust started weeping through the caulk. Pete came out to evaluate things. He suggested that the metal supports above the window frames should have been primed and painted, which we were unaware of, and asked if he would do it. He agreed to do so in the spring. He sent someone out who took several photos. Then sent someone out to do the job who showed up much later in the day than expected (due at noon showed up at 5) requiring us to reschedule because we were expecting visitors. Pete then came out himself again, assuring me that it would be corrected. After not hearing back and ignoring my calls I finally managed to contact him. He then stared back peddling, suggesting that water was getting in behind brick and to get that looked into. Not the case, because it didn't exist prior to the job. That's when communication began to wane...Finally catching him off guard via txting to which I did get a reaction. The next time I attempted to reach him my number had been blocked. You win Pete. So unprofessional. We are now left with rust staining our window frames causing more damage!!....paid in full though. Would not recommend Top Shelf Painting to anyone. read more

Right out of the gate Pete was on time for the initial site walk and quote, which was very detailed. Top Shelf was not the highest or lowest quote we received but we were impressed with Pete and the fact that they were a local business, which is why we chose them. The crew that came out, led by Josh, was fantastic. Arrived early every day, worked very hard for long hours and stayed on track with their schedule. Josh kept things moving and his main crew of Larry and Jeff were great. Very polite and considerate of the fact that we were working and schooling at home, and more importantly were excellent painters. On day one they were joined by Jim to do all the initial prep of taping, laying down floor covering and putting up protective sheathing in prep for spraying all of our woodwork. It was a massive effort but they all worked very deliberately again under the professional guidance of Josh. When the job was complete, Josh walked through with us and immediately fixed the few minor issues we spotted. Josh even resanded and repainted a large area of wainscoting above our fire place that did not meet his or our standards. The finished job looks beautiful and we couldn't be happier. Based on this first experience I would say that this is a trustworthy, professional and experienced business represented well by the painters who did our job. They will definitely be our go to for future painting needs and we will have no reservations about referring them. I have never felt so ripped off in my entire life. $3000 to paint a $750 square foot loft. Quoted $1900 but corned by the owner halfway through the job telling me the quote increased and it would be $3000. They refused to continue the job until I agreed to pay it. On top of that, I kid you not, a 3 year old could have done a better job painting. I WISH I could post the 40+ pictures of how terrible the job was. The quote I had done by them ($1900) was to paint all walls except 2 white (the 2 other walls were blue) and spackle/repair a few holes from the previous owners hanging pictures/cabinets. We added one drywall repair (appx 2 sq ft in size) the day the job started and was given a verbal quote of approximately $150-200 additional. When the crew arrived to start the job the owner Peter Rinaldi tried to tell me that my quote didn't include painting the ceiling and that 'he had a photographic memory' of the quote he provided and was 'absolutely certain' it didn't include the ceiling. Well, two minutes later when I showed him the quote and proved him wrong he immediately began to try and find ways to up my price. His response was 'I thought this was going to be a 'slap and go' job,' and that is certainly the quality his workers put into it. The job was quoted to take 3 days but ended up taking 10. A few days in the crew stopped showing up (apparently they quit according to Peter.) When the new crew picked up where the previous left off they were frantically rushing to try and fix the horrific job the last crew had done. Periodically throughout the 10 days I would stop by as the crews were finishing up for the day. I called Peter on multiple occasions to tell him that I would like him to come take a look for himself to see the poor job being done. He wasn't responding to my emails or calls until I told him that the job they are doing is not professional quality and that I am not going to pay the $1900 until it's a satisfactory job. He responded by calling and telling me the quote had increased $1000 dollars because there was 'more involved than we thought.' When I returned his call and said I wanted more information breaking down the cost before I agree to pay it, he told me that his crew has a 'bigger more important job' that he is going to put them on and that they would not return to finish the work until I agreed to the additional charge. (Although requested multiple times, he would not provide the breakdown of the additional costs until after they completed the job and received payment. The charges were $600 for the 2x2 drywall fix and a $400 charge for 'additional paint.' ) So there I was, unable to complete the job myself, living out of my car because I had to move all of my furniture and belongings into a storage unit, and cornered by the owner saying they won't continue working on my job until I agree to pay the additional $1000. I could have fought it, but that would have meant continuing to live out of my car, continuing to pay for the storage unit, and not being able to return home and pack for a vacation I had approaching in a few days. So of course I ended up caving because I just wanted it to be over with. By the 10th day there was still a ton of work that needed to be re-done. Unfortunately I had no other option than to tell them I would finish the job myself because I needed to move back in to my home and pack for a 2 week vacation. Considering my experience with Peter leading up to this point, I did not trust him or his employees in my home while I was out of town. So there you have it, a snake for a business owner who took advantage of a customer who was making their first big purchase for their first home. This occurred in May 2016. You might be wondering why it took so long to post this review. Well, the first reason is because just thinking about this entire situation is emotionally draining and I was trying to move past it. Also, I tried to work this out with Peter Rinaldi the owner. He showed initial interest in coming to a resolution but then stopped returning my emails and calls. read more
