Nice library with various genres of international books in many different languages (including french which I usually find quite difficult to find in this part of London). Visually very appealing library with a modern look and funky stained glass windows. You have computers, a teen library (my thoughts on this below), DVDs, obviously a great selection of books, a few comfy sofa like chairs positioned here and there, a large, curved sofa to the right and also a second floor with long tables to study at, as well as a toilet (which sounds silly to point out but for some reason I still can't find any sign of Mitcham Library's WC).
There are a few gripes I have which stop it from being my library of choice though.
There is nowhere to eat packed lunch. Even a micro area for this would be brilliant. There is a bench in front of the library but I don't really feel comfortable eating a sandwich in front of a whole line of cars 2 metres away waiting for the traffic lights to change from red, as well as passers by watching as you tuck into your lunch, so Mcdonalds it is.
I dont know if I speak for everyone but I always feel that the study tables are too narrow considering that you are facing someone and for me personally, there isn't enough room for much stuff which Sutton, Croydon and even Mitcham study tables can accommodate. The study area does appear a little cramped with chairs that are quite close together so it could become a little stuffy in Summer but perhaps pleasant in the Winter :) My personal thoughs are that the whole upstairs should have served as a quiet study/reading area rather than segragating the teens from the rest of the library in an area that is rareful properly occupied (unlike the study area which is frequently packed).
The downstairs also lacks chairs. At busier times you may well find yourself with nowhere to sit. A few ordinary chairs here and there would be really good. read more
