In spring it is unbelievably beautiful to canooe this wonderworld. Blossoming trees and dedicately tended gardens border the rivers and creeks, the canals and cul-de-sacs. More than 50 kinds of birds build nests and rise their offspring between low hanging branches, dusted by pollen from countless bushes and trees. Four weeks ago the swans were freed again - after incarnation for the winter time. Never before they could court as undisturbed as 2020.

A convenient place for a romantic walk in the evening, a sporty jog trot in the morning, a funky BBQ during the summertime or a nice hangout for the kids. (Playground included) Within walking distance: an ice-cream parlour, a sushi bar, a few restaurants and a bus stop.

I fully agree with twisterella's comments on the romantic/sport offerings, sadly the ice-creme parlor is no more. (good ice-cream--it is missed). The canal provides plenty of canoe/paddle/tourist boat action--if that's what you're into! Go there, it's good.

This park is for barbeques and lying around. It's not really a park for football or cricket games…read more(it's too small). Wohlerspark is definitely my favourite park in the area. Although it's super-close to the Schanze and St Pauli it's officially in Altona. One other oddity is that it's actually a graveyard. Walking through the areas of town considered by one such northerner to be worthy, I stumbled across Wohlerspark, and I was smitten immediately. There's nothing grandiose about the park; it's not big, has neither the grandeur of Planten un Blomen nor the size of the Stadtpark, lacks both lake and river frontage, and yet there's something sublime about this spot. An excellent place to start the day, or end an evening.

Not much traffic we met 5 people on a sunny August Monday afternoon, but be aware of the sometimes speeding cyclists ;-) !! You can walk around the lake and the "Moor" easily in an hour, or spent much more if you follow each and every trail. Especially if you observe the cute little houses, with their accurate design and trimmed lawn (this is Germany ;-) and of course some garden gnomes of the "Kleingartenverein" parcels around the Moor.
