We had to firstly ask for a menu after being seated for quite some time then we had to give our order to another staff member because they were not confident that she had filled out the order form properly - and we heard about the evening special after we already decided on what to have. But these are little things and after that the food made up for it . Okay, three courses for $95.00 is okay for nice food, and my wife ordered different dishes than I so we could switch at the halfway point and get to experience six courses each. My wife chose a Prawn Squid Ink Pasta with Baby Zucchini for starters, Mullaway fillet with Leeks and Spanner Crab Sauce, and a Rhubarb Strawberry Parfait. I chose a Broad Bean and Pea Risotto with Pancetta for starter, Pork belly with celeriac gratin and Granny Smith apple sauce, and pressed chocolate soufflé cake with fresh figs. After wandering through a few shops in this heritage listed town we were truly hungry and ready for a good coffee and a nice lunch.The first thing that hits you when you walk in is the wonderful selection of baked goodies stationed in front to entice your need for something yummy- we resisted, knowing that some of these goodies will be riding home with us! I decided on the Beef and Shiraz Pie-with hand cut chips and salad- it's nice to find a place that still uses real potatoes - they were great! The pie appeared to be mostly pastry but once cut into, had a very generous slow cooked filling that was very tasty. But the show stoppers were the fish and chips, and batter- dipped Prawns. We have a few places in Sydney that make nice fish and chips, but these dishes were right up there with the best we have had-fresh,crisp and perfectly cooked-the prawns were very generous and I was lucky to be handed one. If I went back I would order these dishes.I would have given this place a perfect score but two things kept that last star from being given.One is that I am still waiting for the promised jug of water the waitress said she was bringing- we would have asked again but the wait staff never checked back with us to make sure we were happy .The second thing is a common one in cafes- our meals came with salad that were drenched in dressing and were no longer crispy- I didn't mind so much but my wife has grow accustomed to asking for dressing on the side because she hates that! And she also hates coriander which wasn't listed as an ingredient so she was searching through here salad trying not to eat any. We chose to go with the 3-course a'la carte menu, which allowed us to focus on the courses that are primarily sourced locally. On top of wonderful quail, pork belly, venison and lamb dishes, we were also served fresh sourdough, amuse-bouches and sorbets between courses. I like to think of it as "All the trimmings of fine dining". There is a generous wine list featuring quality local and international drops, and the service is pleasant, calming and efficient. I heartily recommend a visit here as an experience akin to what I imagine a trip to a starred country house in England would be like.

They have a SMH Hat and for good reason. We went for a celebratory dinner. Their al a carte menu is limited to about 4 choices per course which, in an area like this, shouts fresh and local. They work the menu to tested favourite as well as specials showing off what the region has to offer by promoting the 100 mile philosophy (sourced from with a 100 mile radius) with as many of their suppliers as possible. Three courses is $75 a head, and I highly recommend putting your wine choices in the hands of the staff, who have local wines matched specifically to each dish. The pressed duck was superb, as was the venison special. Fantastic lamb, pork belly and cheese. I don't really think you can go wrong with any selection. If you're in Orange you should check this place out. The bill came to about $280 for 2, including 3 courses, 3 matching wines, a couple of extra glasses of champagne, a whisky and a glass of dessert wine (BARGAIN compared to Sydney prices). Also worth mentioning is the taxi fare (you don't want to be driving if you want to experience Racine), it's about $20 each way from the centre of Orange, and the cabbies are so awesome they'll happily give you their personal mobile number so you can shoot them a TXT when you're ready to head home (thanks Mick!!).

Service was fabulous, the owner taking an active part in the experience. The atmosphere is really pleasing with interesting art on the walls and good quality furniture.
