What was starting to be a lovely evening a few weeks back had the most unfortunate interruption. Diner was going nicely, the food was ok, a quick visit to the restroom seen the head chef (slightly longer messy haired Gentleman) walk straight past the hand basin and back to the kitchen WITHOUT washing his hands. Shocked, i stuck my head around the corner and seen he did NOT wash in the kitchen either and went straight back to preparing food. I grabbed my wife and in-laws, paid the bill and left. Gawd, my tummy still rumbles in appreciation when I recall the Meet the Winemaker event we attended at Tonic during the 2015 Wine Festival. It was quite simply amazing. There is a reason why this kitchen has been awarded a chef's hat. Not only was the food incredible, delicious and thoughtfully paired with the selection in consultation with the three winemakers represented (and present) at the event. The sheer quantity was just opulent. I shook Tony's hand and explained to him, in my best quiffy voice (I was at wine number 9 by that time) that anything left over on my plate didn't mean I didn't like it. It just meant I needed to pace myself. We enjoyed 12 wines with appetisers, entree, main and dessert. Yes, only 12. 13 would have been excessive. Don't wait for the annual wine festival. High quality food offered in a lovely atmosphere, amongst beautiful and historic town. The food here is delicious and cooked with skill and finesse, but the dessert is absolutely phenomenal... The pear and honey soufflé with white chocolate ice cream was to die for! The strawberry field was heavenly and I'm sure if I had any room left I would have discovered that the other desserts were just as spectacular! read more
