I met Daniel at Home Depot after the hurricanes and floods of September/October 2024. We started talking about general things, which was an easy thing considering the gentle and convivial manner of Daniel. In the course of our conversation, I learned that Daniel was in the home restoration business, whereupon I invited him to my home to survey the great damage done by the hurricanes/floods, and to estimate the cost to repair. Daniel accepted my invitation, and he appeared at my home that afternoon at the time he said he would be there. The damage to my house (a duplex) was substantial. All sheetrock four feet from the floor had to be removed, all insulation had to be removed, most electrical outlets and other connections for wifi, data, cable, etc. had to be removed and replaced. The wood moldings throughout both apartments, all cabinets, significant tile, bathroom fixtures, large granite countertops, kitchen appliances, and so much more, all required removal. In addition, since the house was empty, I remodeled one of the bathrooms. The work was substantial, and I was a bit nervous over using Daniel, since I had never used him before. Nonetheless, I took a chance, hired him, and gave him the job of returning my formerly beautiful home to its former elegance. Daniel immediately began scoping out the work and in a short time delivered to me his account of the damage, the work necessary to restore my home, and his estimated times and prices. Thereafter, we discussed the work and the price, we reached an agreement and the work began. It was very easy discussing these matters with Daniel. He was soft spoken, analytical, insightful, and honest. I think the most pronounced thing I observed was that his language was free from profanity and coarseness. It was easy to talk with him and to reach an agreement. He then began the substantial work required, and what can I say? My home was restored to its former beauty. The work is now done, my home is once again beautiful, and Daniel's work was exceptional in every regard. He is easy to talk with, his work is excellent, his insights are great, and his price is reasonable. I have no reservation whatsoever about referring Daniel to anyone who needs work on their home. He charged $290 to re-caulk the shower, replace the door seal, and repair the drywall. He also claimed he found no moisture behind the wall using a moisture reader. Unfortunately, I noticed staining reappearing shortly after. After multiple delays and excuses, he returned months later and said a faulty gasket was likely the issue. I paid an additional $180 for the part and labor in January 2025. Despite repeated, polite follow-ups, he never returned to do the work and eventually stopped responding entirely. Now, in June 2025, we've discovered water stains on the kitchen ceiling -- directly under the same shower -- confirming an active leak and likely structural damage. If he had followed through promptly, we could have avoided what may now be a far more expensive repair. I'm out nearly $500 for incomplete and ineffective work, and I'm incredibly frustrated by the lack of accountability or follow-through. I would not recommend this handyman to anyone.

Then I got an estimate from him of $100-$1,000. He did not go to the property. I contacted him to ask why. He said he had never talked to me before and that he didn't lie. I sent him a screenshot of his estimate. He agreed that was his by saying that was his estimate because he hadn't seen the property. But he had said he hadn't talked to me before. Then I got a few more emails from him, each very rude. I wrote saying to never mind and that he'd lost a job. DO NOT USE THIS MAN. If there was a negative rating, he would get that!

We've been so impressed by Kay Construction throughout the entire process of our renovation. We…read morehired them to merge our small dining space with the dining space on our porch, to make one large dining room to hold all of our friends and family. Our project involved some engineering and creative problem solving, as we were removing a load-bearing wall. Steve and Trey listened to all of our concerns and answered all of our questions, and we had a ton of questions! Once the remodel got started I was pleasantly surprised with how clean they ran the construction site. At the end of each day, they cleaned up, vacuumed and even ran a magnet across our backyard to pick up any construction debris. We really appreciated this, as we work from home and have small children, so we had to truly live in the construction area. Plus, I didn't have to worry about the kids stepping on something and getting hurt. One of my favorite parts of the build was the communication. We were on a group text and were kept up to date on when they'd be arriving, what would be getting done, etc. They always showed up when they said they would, and if they were delayed by another job, they were quick to let us know.
