In February 2024 I was dx with stage 4 uterine cancer. I was referred to Dr. Rohan Faria as my…read moreoncologist. Upon meeting him I was impressed that he had read my entire file and knew everything about me instead of asking me questions about why I was there. He was incredibly thorough in not only his testing but also his treatment plan. He literally saved my life and I am now in complete remission, no longer on chemo and no longer on immunotherapy. However, he has assured me that this is not a fly by night relationship and will be with me monitoring me for the rest of my life. Instead of the stoic, cold physician most say oncologists can be, he is warm and compassionate along with great knowledge of his field.

As you can imagine... he scared the H E double hockey sticks out of me! I was floored! To receive a referral out of the blue and by mail was overwhelming! The appointment had already been made for me with Dr. Sawhney. I trusted my life once again to the Great Physician, knowing He would put me in the best hands-- and He did! He's been practicing for many years; graduated from the Univ. College of Medical Sciences, Delhi Univ, New Delhi, Delhi, India in 1989. He works in Tamarac, FL and specializes in Hematology/Oncology. Dr. Sawhney is affiliated with Broward Health Coral Springs, Florida Medical Center a Campus of North Shore and Northwest Medical Center. He is professional, sensitive, soft-spoken and caring! The office building is located near University Hospital in Tamarac. Parking is a bit challenging, but the facilities are nice, and the staff is wonderful. The nurse was so sweet, and the phlebotomist who drew blood was the best I've had in a long long time. She found my vein from the get-go and she was very gentle. I was so happy, I gave her a Starbucks gift card! Dr. Sawhney was as perplexed as I was that I was there and said the referral was not only premature, but that they had skipped a step. I cried tears of relief, and he was professionally comforting. He set me up with a referral to a Gastroenterologist and I was thankful the staff made the appointment directly over the phone with the other specialist's office. Otherwise, it may have been several more weeks until I would have been able to set it up myself. My experience was 100% satisfactory and although this isn't the type of business that anyone wants to visit, should you need to, I highly recommend Dr. Sawhney. One last thing: Should you need to consult with an oncologist, please feel free to send me a short, to the point private message; no need for details. I want to pray and be whatever part of your support team you'll have me be. We're in this journey called life together--never alone!

What I can say, however, is that his communication skills, as well as those of his office, are non existent. Prior to my procedure, I was was told by his surgical coordinator that my surgery would take 1-1 1/2 hours and I would be home that afternoon. In fact, it was a 4 hour procedure (no complications) that kept me overnight. During those 4 hours, my wife was told nothing of my progress and was given no update even after her requests. Upon my discharge, I was given hospital isssued post op instructions regarding care and food restrictions for the next week. Two days later, I was in such terrible pain that I called the office. Multiple calls went only to voicemail, even the extension that was for "urgent issues". I finally got through to the appointment desk and was routed from there. One week later I arrived for my follow-up appointment to find a full waiting and was told the doctor was running late, about 90 minutes late. I most certainly understand that unexpected issues in surgery or emergencies take precedence, but I don't understand why the office couldn't or wouldn't call their scheduled patients and give them the option of arriving an hour+ later or re-scheduling. I believe the patients time is just as important to them as the doctors time is to him. When he finally arrive and entered the exam room which I was in, you would think the first thing out of his mouth would be an apology for his tardiness, but not a word. As the exam progressed, I asked about future food consumption, at which time he told me that if I had read the instructions given to me I'd know the answer. I explained that I had read them over, with my wife, multiple times and they only covered the first week. He walked out of the room and returned with a pamphlet that had all the info needed and told me again that I should have read it. Only one problem...it was NEVER given to me! At this point I could not help but tell him what I encountered with his and his offices unprofessional and inconsiderate treatment as well as unacceptable communication skills. Rather than listen like he actually cared, I was I interrupted multiple times and told he didn't have time to listen to this. It was obvious he couldn't get out of the room quick enough! Moral of the story....probably a good surgeon but terrible communicator with no people skills. I'm sure there are surgeons out there that are great at both. Your decision...

First, let me say that Dr. Almeida is a competent doctor and performed my surgery 8/9 years ago…read more She is understanding and sympathetic-that's if I get to see her. I do not drive 1 1/2 hrs to see Lucy. The office staff has an employee that lies (at least one). I specifically requested to see Dr. Almeida. After probably 8 consecutive rescheduling year after year, I came to the understanding this would always happen. I agreed to see Lucy one time(last year) and frankly, she is not as gentle or expert as Dr. Almeida, plus I had questions for Dr. Almeida. So this time, after the usual call to reschedule, I specifically said I wanted to see Dr. Almeida. The "caller" said she could get me in to see Lucy and I said "no, I want Dr. Almeida", so we scheduled a month out. When they called to confirm, I asked "It's with Dr. Almeida, correct?" and she said "Yes". Well, it wasn't. So when they called to reschedule and I asked, I was told yes and when they called to confirm I asked and was told yes. Twice I was lied to! I am the patient, paying for these appts and a receptionist does not have the right to decide who I see. Also, the pain during my Pap was the worst I've ever had during a pap due to what, I don't know, other than aggressiveness. Unfortunately, this is not the first time an issue has arisen with this office. I don't receive calls about results of tests and calls are returned several days later. They also gave me a bill for 2024 that I never heard about, even when I was in the office in 2025! I could go on and on. Unfortunately, after several years, I will find a new doctor. Dr. Almeida is most likely not aware of the incomptetence of her office and there should be more oversight. I will also make sure Dr. Almeida is aware of her staff lying to patients. She just lost a patient! Sad!
