This is a biased review. I am not family, do not own stock (they are not incorporated), and have no relations with TomC and, or the people that work with him. But since I have been going to him for the last 3-4 years, am very pleased with his work, I have decided to offer this review.
I have a background in physics and have a basic understanding of chemistry, so when I say TomC always has interesting things to say about the process of restoration, I'm understating the situation. I think the man can go on forever. Examples galore. Details, and more. Fascinating histories of a process, or work. Always willing to spend the time to explain. Even included are lots of detail, or work in progress pictures.
The scope of his work for me has included; 1- Working with creased (flattening) torn (rebuliding) stained and sun burned Japanese Hoshi' prints. 2- Similar work on turn of the nineteenth century prints 3- painting restoration (who would have thought you could send a museum painting pressed and stuck between USPS priority packing cardboard? And the same care given to a painting done by my brother-not famous 4- A sentimental $100 art opening poster insanely glued directly to foam board, used as dart practice at some point, that ended being "touched up" by being hand painted as well as of course flattened and fixed 5- rebuilt pop art box made of a painting from the 50's 6- and even most recently a number of LP covers that were ruined by water and mold (cleaned, flattened) for an amazingly reasonable price.
Highly recommended, can't say enough positive, always reasonable prices. Made my xmas gift list the first year he did work for me. read more
