My experience w/ Daniel Toler of Toler Tree service started out very well. Back in the middle of August this year (2018) Daniel was very quick to respond to my 'HomeAdvisor' request for tree and stump removal services. He quickly called and same day came by my home to provide me w/an estimate for services. I found the estimate to be reasonable and as his responses back to my questions were very timely and he assured me that he carried liability insurance I hired Toler Tree Service to remove the tree, and a date and time was scheduled to do so. Within a few days (Aug, 17th) he was back on site to perform the work as planned. He did note that he could not remove the stump until after he had the utility companies out to mark lines so the stump would be done at a later date. I was fine w/that approach. All seemed to proceed well during the day as he and one other worked to fall the tree. Unfortunately, during the workday, one of his ropes used to control the direction the tree would fall ended up breaking and when it snapped it hit my garage door with such force that the accident put a hole in my door. At the time i was not overly concerned as Daniel said he would most certainly repair the door. He told me that he needed a couple of days to research the door a bit and promised me in an email (which i've retained) that he would fix the door and be out to pull the stump very soon. Again, I was not overly concerned at the time. After two weeks passed without hearing back from Daniel I sent him an email asking for insight and status to when the door would be fixed and the stump would be removed. This was August 28th. He replied that he was out of town for a family emergency and was waiting to hear back from his contact(s) as to whether or not he could get a replacement panel for my garage door and said he would get back to me when he arrived back home. I waited another couple of weeks and having not heard back from Daniel, on September 13th I sent him another follow-up email asking when the job would be finished and my door would be fixed. He responded that he would review his calendar so that we could meet the following week and schedule removal of the stump, but warned that the guy who removes stumps for him was "two weeks out". Although it had been more than a month since he fell the tree I was a bit upset that i would have to wait another 2 weeks. However, i bit my tong and accepted another 2 week delay because in the same email he again "PROMISED" (and I have that in writing) he would fix my garage door and I did not want to upset that plan. Unfortunately and after another 4 weeks passed w/out a response from Daniel i sent yet another email on 10/16 conveying that my frustration was building and we needed to make progress on the repair and stump removal. I also noted that if he was too busy to finish the stump removal I could go elsewhere for the service so he wouldn't have to worry about that. Unfortunately, he did not reply to my email. Three days later on 10/19 I sent Daniel a text asking if he had seen my email from the 16th? He did not respond to my text. Then yesterday, 10/31, after 2&1/2 months after falling the tree and damaging my garage door I sent another text asking him to respond to my previous email and text. Today, 11/1, I still have not received a response from Daniel and believe that my only course of action left is to pursue this in small-claims court, which I will most certainly do. I'm guessing he did not have the insurance coverage as he had conveyed. I most certainly would not recommend this company to others!!! One final note, I'm also disappointed in Homeadvisors as I would have thought that they would have done a little bit of work to validate the character and workmanship of Toler. But, that incorrect assumption is on me! read more
