I was blown away with the in depth knowledge and gentleness with which the instructor executed his techniques. I will be signing my son up with Judan as soon as he's old enough. The instructors are always safe and gentle with child and adult alike. Safety is a huge priority and is exercised completely. Not only is all the staff respectful, but also very efficient at teaching this beautiful art of Judo. Whether you wish to compete, or simply train self defense, you can find exactly what you are looking for here at Judan. A fun, diverse culture where respect and good manners are taught and required. Leave your ego at the door, because this school has far more than you could ever imagine.

This place is an injury factory. If you say you dont want to work on something because of an…read moreinjury, you'll get ridiculed. The sensei's (instructors) are very tournament oriented so they want warriors! The "japanese ju-jutsu" they advertise is only done on saturdays and is consistantly cancelled because the instructor who teaches it (sensei russ) is also an instructor for a police class at owens, so hes never there. Sensei russ is a good reference for heel hooks if you like bjj you'll probably like him but god forbid if you mention an imanari or a berimbolo or a web gaurd takedown. Its very, very old school. When they do open at 9 a.m. sat if you decide to go at 9 you'll have to wait till 10 or 11 untill someone decides to train with you and its usually in the kids class. They tell you things like "we dont tap here!" or work through the submission. Coming from a backround in brazillian jiu jitsu i can see where all the injuries come from. In the month ive been there ive had my finger injured bad enough to where its black and blue and have had my ribs bruised. My ribs became bruised when a guest blackbelt came in wearing a whitebelt and threw me very hard... When i was wearing a white belt... I didnt even know how to take the fall. Because there is NO cirriculum and the teachers flip flop on who's going to teach and on what days theyll teach, you cant get lesson plans so you cant youtube the moves before going to practice. We spend maybe 10-20 mins on a throw and then move on, i guess if you're a prodigy thats a good way to train but for the common man probably not. Ive been coming here for a month and am looking for a different school because of how dangerous they train. One instructor (sensei Neal) was training us on hard floor off the mat because he didnt want to put on a gi. Students are always dealing with injuries like broken wrists, seperated shoulders, broken fingers, all which are common in the Sport side of the martial art but shouldnt be in practice. I used to go to practice dreading the next injury. If you come from a brazillian jiu jitsu backround andyou're just looking for someone to spar with or train with dont go here. You're not allowed to train by touching the legs because they only play by judo rules. Theyre self defense class is just gary teaching eye pokes and groin strikes. When i asked him the legal rammifications of poking someones eye out he responded "if you're not there when the cops get there then there was no fight". When asked anything about self defense the instructors usually advise eye and groin strikes and almost never reference judo or ju jutsu which is weird and makes me loose confidence.

TBH, I was…read moreprepared to make fun of the other reviewers, but I can't really, 'cuz most of them have some legit concerns. HOWEVER, none of those concerns mean shit to me, because they're all trumped by how AWESOMELY this gym is equipped! Unless you are a world class strength athlete (specifically, a power lifter, a weight lifter, or a strongman competitor) you can get an awesome workout here. If there's a piece of equipment that they don't have, it probably doesn't exist. Pro Bodybuilder? Yeah, you can bust it here. Is all of the equipment in PERFECT condition? No. But everything is fully functional. They have almost every piece of workout equipment that I've ever seen, and, a lot of stuff that I've never seen before. Plus, there is redundancy...if the Hammer leg curl machine isn't to your liking, just try the Strive version...or the Hoist version...or the... Can you eat off the floor of the men's locker room? No, petunia, you cannot. But it's really not that gross, either. Is it open 24/7? No. But the hours are good for most people. What about that three year contract thing? I agree, it's a hassle. But hey, listen, when you sign a contract, you are bound to it. Stop crying and honor your word. Deal with it. Besides, there are shorter term contracts available. The price is right. How right? So let's put it into perspective: The first gym I ever joined as an adult (Gold's in New Orleans, on Paris Ave) cost thirty bucks a month. Here we are, half a lifetime later and a (much) better equipped gym costs only 20 - 25 bucks? Yeah, the price is right. There's a pool, a sauna, a hot tub, aerobic classes, a smoothie bar, a FRIGGIN' LAUNDERMAT, and other amenities. Personal training? Meh. This place isn't perfect, but for the price, it's pretty damned great. That's why I'm giving Super Fitness five (5) BUFF AS HELL stars!!!!!

I really like this gym. It is tidy. staff is kind. I hardly ever have to wait for anything.read more
