Irene does the cooking and is a rosy faced smiley lady who loves to talk to her guests. Food is sourced locally often from her own garden or from her forays into the surrounding countryside. The evening we went mushrooms were the order of the day as she had been out in the morning collecting a huge basketful of several different varieties, which she showed us before cooking them for us. Her English is quite limited but she had gone to the trouble of finding out the English word for mushrooms so that she could ascertain whether or not we liked them. We started with terrine of rabbit and out came a huge terrine which was left on the table for us to help ourselves to as much as we wanted. The second course was a bed of rustic salad leaves with a huge helping of sauteed mushrooms and a beef or venison casserole. It was delicious. The cheese board was again a marathon with lots of local varieties to sample. Again it was left with us to help ourselves. Dessert was a sort of rhubarb crumble. Finally a large bowl of cherries from Irene's garden were brought to our table, as if we were not already full enough ! It was a real experience.
