Title: Unprofessional and Rude Experience I would give zero stars if it was an option. The owner/teacher TK was extremely unprofessional and rude. He accepted our child and had us buy materials from him, only to tell us after two weekend classes that he was no longer available for that time and day going forward and to check back after the summer. This is unacceptable. Furthermore, calling a toddler student a "dumb dumb" after just two lessons (or at any point for that matter) is beyond inappropriate. I do not recommend this piano teacher to anyone. read more

My son started to take piano classes with Ty, since he was three and a half years old. So far this summer is going to be our 4th year coming to TK Musik Academy. My son loves music and every time he requests Ty to teach him the songs he loves. Some of the songs my son mastered are: Believer, Radio Active, Enemy, Singing in the Rain, Rush E, Adams Family, Can Can, and the list goes on and on. Also, twice a year most of the kids who come here perform during recital with a music band (usually accompanied by a guitar and drums). This part is my son's favorite. We are really happy with Tk Musik Academy. I've known Ty Khuong for years and have enjoyed his superb talent on the piano. He is a true professional and a fine fellow.

Recently bought a digital piano from this guy through Reverb and made payment through Reverb which went through just fine. He called me immediately after and convinced me to settle out of Reverb to "save on taxes" and so he could pocket more money since he wouldn't have to pay Reverb's fees. That was the red flag but it was my mistake to ignore since he was a fellow Vietnamese. 2nd red flag was when he asked me to pay for the piano with cash ($7000 to be exact). Told him I didn't have that much cash laying around so we settled with me paying him using my credit card and I had to pay the transaction fee of $200 so I benefited nothing from paying outside of Reverb. Since he already brought the piano to my house, I went through with the transaction anyway to avoid further hassle. He got me signed the sales receipt with the All Sales are Final on it and lo and behold, the piano stopped working the very next day. Contacted him and he said to contact a bunch of random techcians which I was never able to get a hold of so not even sure if those were legitimate technicians. I finally contacted Yamaha to send a technician out to diagnose the piano and they decided that the motherboard was bad and needed to be replaced. They also said that the issue was likely reoccuring so this Thai Khuong was aware of the issue but chose to conceal it to make a quick sale. Bottom line is, it was my fault for ignoring so many red flags and letting myself be a victim. Don't let yourself be a victim of this sleazy guy!!! read more

For a couple of years my daughter has been wanting to learn piano so after some searching I found TK Musik Academy through Yelp. She started lessons in August 2017 and already plays better than I ever have (I had lessons for at least 3 years back in the day!!). My daughter has great rapport with "Mr. Thai" and she enjoys going to piano lessons every week. Within her first couple of weeks of lessons she was already working on learning Fur Elise by Beethoven. Yes, as her mom, I think my daughter is musically talented :-) but honestly, Thai does a great job breaking things down so that they are manageable for a 13 year old. He has a practice log he gives to her so she can log her practice time every week. He encourages my daughter to choose music she is interested in. Which is great, because then she actually wants to practice and perfect the piece. She is currently working a a piece from the Tangled movie and loves seeing and hearing her own progress. TK's studio is nicely set up with a sitting/waiting area that is equipped with televisions showing a realtime video of the session. I find Thai to be professional, respectful and communicative. Definitely recommend TK Musik Academy to anyone looking to learn piano! read more

My son has taken lessons with Thai for 4 or 5 months or so. I was happy with the progress he was making. I just wanted him to develop some skills and a joy for playing. He left his last practice crying. He had been practicing "Fur Elise" for the past several weeks, his longest and most difficult piece so far. Apparently Thai was not happy with the progress. At one point my son's practice log sheet was crumpled up and tossed at him. Upon playing wrong notes, my son was told that he needed to figure it out -- he wasn't getting any help. What was I paying for again? After practice, I got no communication from Thai at all, as normal. Just a "see you next week.", and moves on to the next student. When he notices on his security cameras that we are still with my son talking to me, he came back out. He had the nerve to say he "kept himself from getting upset during the lesson" at one point. What do you do when you DO get upset, Thai? If your son has any anxiety or self-esteem issues, stay far away. read more

We had a communication experience with this teacher. He required to do a lot of paperwork. My wife did so. In the end, he asked to take the quiz that you read and signed. He messaged my wife so many times about teaching conditions. Eventually, he said that he does not have time to teach our daughter. We wasted our time and money (trial lesson). I do not recommend him, but I don't know how he is as a piano teacher. read more

For years I've wanted to learn to play piano. I finally took the initiative and started lessons with Thai at his TK Musik Academy. How amazing- after a short time I learned how to play songs that are fun and sophisticated sounding!. Before I started I figured I would be stuck playing nursery rhymes level songs but was pleasantly surprised with the array of tunes. Thai has a great way of teaching. He is patient, informative and encouraging. He's tailored his teaching and uses Skype to assure everyone stays healthy. Being able to learn from home has been really convenient. Mr. Thai, is a funny and great all round piano teacher.

My child previously took piano lessons at TK, but has since moved on to another instructor (someone who doesn't normally teach, but is doing so in this case as a personal favor). The good: speaking as a musician myself (not piano), Thai is a great musician and is also good at teaching. The less good: Thai teaches songs, but my child learned nothing but that while was a student there. Nothing about scales, theory, or reading music - things that I view as important, but since my instrument is not piano, I did not press hard on the issue. Our current instructor was rather surprised by that, and his assessment was about the same as mine: a kid with a fair amount of raw talent and who can play songs, but who doesn't know anything about music. That situation is now being rectified and my child is fascinated by the "how" and "why" of music, not just the "what" of playing songs. If you are just looking to have your kid learn to play music by rote, I think TK is fine. If your kid is serious about music and musicianship, ask a lot of questions about scales, theory, and reading before making your decision. read more

Very disappointed after reading all the great reviews on this place. Went in to get piano lessons for my 15 year old and pretty much got turned away. I guess I should be thanking him - I would never want this teacher for my children and think of how my son feels. First experience with music lessons and this is what we get, rejected because my son also has an interest in drums and he feels like he is being forced to take piano...........Really? We found TK Musik Akademy last spring after my son's open house at school. At open house, a 5th grader was playing piano beautifully, with confidence and poise. I had to know who her teacher was! I got contact info from her mom, and my son started lessons last summer. All I can say is wow! I don't know how Thai has a knack for connecting with kids and inspiring them. My son, who was comfortable with playing "jingle bells" and other simple songs when he started, was playing Bethoven's fifth symphony at his first recital 5 months later. And the other recital kids played beautifully as well, I was so impressed and proud of all of them. Thai has been my piano teacher for almost 4 years now. It was a quiet interesting journey as an adult student. I love music, I chose Thai to help me work on my piano. I'd say play piano requires very high self discipline, there are many many times I was about to give up because of work or life pressure as an adult. But I am glad Thai helped me manage it, I keep playing for 4 years and I hope I will continue practice and play piano. Thai is a strict teacher, but I would say I won't be able to move so far if Thai just went easy on me. Practice piano is no doubt a very tedious process. My all time favorite piano teacher for my kids. They've been taking lesson from Mr. Thai for a little over 3 years. Of course, no kids ever like extra work but my two kids have kept up with piano lessons and practices for as long as they did because Mr. Thai knows how to keep them engaged and motivated. He's been with TK Musik for 2 years now and enjoys playing piano so much. He's been able to play familiar songs that he hears on the radio and that makes it even more fun for him.
