This is the German TJ Maxx, and it's just as good (if not better) than its U.S. counterparts. While on a European trip in late December, my husband left his only pair of gloves on the train. I'm so glad I found this store in Heidelberg because I was able to get him a replacement pair for cheap, and I didn't have to go to a pricey department store. This is a two-level store with all sorts of good stuff. I really loved looking at the makeup section, lots of European brands for a few dollars. I picked up some face cream and lip balm to use during my travels as well. This store was well stocked for the season, and the racks were full of warm winter jackets, scarves, and hats, which makes this a great and affordable stop if you are traveling and have forgotten something (socks, shirts, pajamas, toiletries, etc.). It's like a treasure hunt, but don't expect to find high end designer brands or anything, just solid, reliable wardrobe staples. So if you find something you like and it fits right, do not hesitate as it might not be there the next day. Get ready - for all those who know TJ Maxx... THIS IS THE SAME THING. So if you find yourself stranded in Heidelberg in need of some discount pajama bottoms, screwdrivers, decorative boxes, or slightly stale candy look no further. Oh, and if it is Oktoberfest season and you need a cheap Dirndl - this is the only place I've seen Dirndls for reasonable one time use prices. My favorite feature of this store is that the escalators go up... but they don't go down... You must use the stairs at the back of the store. And you were probably judged for using the escalators instead of the stairs to go up in the first place... :) read more
