We did the pick-up in store option and in the past other places have shown me that it isn't always quick and easy, sometimes it's easier going in and shopping for it yourself but from the time Eric got out of the jeep in the parking lot and was getting back in was literally 3 minutes. Ocean State Job Lot is a store I have not visited frequently. They are often classified as discount…read morestores or a store that sells items at closeout prices. My wife and I needed to waste some time before another spot opened nearby and we decided to swing in. I will say they had some large name brand items that appeared to be cheaper than other places offer them. Although I do think part of the issue with here and other similar stores is the fact a lot of items are more or less junk in reality once you look past the commonly known brands. To their credit the store was well organized and offered a large variety of items ranging from houseware, clothes, seasonal items even some Christmas and Halloween stuff still. Was surprising that Halloween stuff was only discounted by 50% off considering how long it's been since the holiday. Service check out wise was quick and friendly. If you search around I think you can find some good deals but a lot of it seems questionable quality wise even at the "discounted" prices. As a lifelong Mainer I think I'd be quicker to return to Marden's than Ocean State. In the end, not too bad for a quick browse to waste some time.

But at the same time you could very easily leave with an absurd variety of things that are surprisingly sold in the same store and if you aren't careful spend a small fortune. I mean there is a reason for awhile there was a trend online where people film videos asking a friend if they had "fill in the blank bizarre item" with friend then showing said bizarre item that did actually exist here. My wife and I enjoy coming here for spotting the absurd things they have for sale but also do find useful buys as well. Some of the stuff I am unsure how it ever sells though, like some of the pictures I have added. Prices can be hit or miss with some good deals but some prices seem overpriced. This is a store where some items even have their price versus what the typical retail price would be. I am skeptical of these due to the fact they could make up numbers to make it seem like a deal. If you are a fan of seasonal based items you will find a lot here with right now being fall versions of everything you can imagine. Honestly a store visiting even if you are just going to browse, you will likely find one oddity you want to buy. Be warned though this place also frequently has extremely long checkout lines especially close to the holidays.

But the stuff here is so generic, I don't know how that can be true. It's full of home furnishings like lights, mirrors, rugs, throw pillows, bedding, and various furniture, kitchen products like cookware and dinnerware, wall art that seems like it's printed from stock photos, loads of cheap seasonal decor, and very random food like chocolates you've never heard of, off-brand hot sauces, and random pickled produce. And there's stuff absolutely everywhere, quite literally overflowing from bins. For me, all I see here is store full of things that will eventually end up in the landfill. As a person who is overstimulated easily, errs on the side of minimalism, and makes purchases intentionally, this is not a shopping experience for me.

I had a really great experience here this past week. As a…read moreplus-sized woman, shopping is a nightmare and makes me so stressed and anxious. (Though, what doesn't, lol) I came in here looking for a shirt that would be flattering, kind of modest and covering my stomach, and make me feel pretty -while being not too flashy. Kind of ridiculously picky, right? Not to these saleswomen! Three of them walked around with me, talked to me, joked with me. They didn't care that I was smelly fresh from the gym or opinionated on everything. In the end I ended up looking at a blue sparkly shirt, unsure how I'd look in it- and a saleswoman came up to me, told me she had it, and told me how she styled it. She helped me pick the right size and made me feel so good about myself, though I'm not a standard "sample size." When I walked in, clearly nervous, the woman folding clothes at the front said, "Come right in. You're in the right place. This is what we are here for!" A+. I know it's salespeople's jobs to be kind and sell stuff, but they went above and beyond with customer experience. They made me feel beautiful when I never do. And not judged. Great experience. AND the shirt that was marked $35 ended up being on sale for $22 even though it was in the front of the store! LOVE. Thanks, Torrid.

Most places have the top and bottom as one size and sold together. Torrid, sells their swimsuits separately, which is a bit more expensive but totally worth it. I ordered online and it was a 40% off sale day. Fantastic! However when it arrived, the top was just a bit too small. I drove out the the Maine mall and asked if they would take an online return. They did, and I got a tip that was 2 sizes bigger. The person at the register seems apprehensive about the online return at first. However once she realized, she was very kind and asked if I wanted to try the new top on. It's a good thing I did, because it was too large. I finally got one that was just the right size. Perfect for me! So I was very happy to have had a great experience and this is my 3rd torrid bathing suit, they really are very nice for the big ladies. Everything is covered, and held in, nice and snatched. lol. If you're a little on the plus side, check them out! Wonderful !

We haven't had to interact much with the staff, because we use self checkout, however, you can see them working hard, stocking cleaning and filling orders. The location is kind of on a chaotic corner, but the store is easy to find. The parking lot has plenty of parking in the front and side of the building. The clink bottle/can return bins are always available. We have never found it to be overflowing. We don't mind shopping here when we are in the area. I never hesitate to stop if we need to.

When I explained I needed a bag, since I was doing more shopping in town and spent close to a hundred dollars, I felt I shouldn't have to pay an additional.25. Not good business sense to loose a customer over a quarter. If I was the clerk, I would have searched around and found some bag that perhaps a person consigning had left behind to give me as an option since she couldn't part with their plain brown paper bags that they use. The owner of this company should pay attention to this and instill some flexibility to their employees.

The lovely woman at the register was very helpful - and recommended a locals' favorite bakery that I should try - Boulangerie, A Proper Bakery. Apparently, their Saturday Babka offering is quite exceptional. They also have a comfy chair and magazines about Maine for your partner to peruse while you shop. My husband actually found a few points of interest to visit during our trip thanks to this little stop. I wish I could pop in more often!
