We were originally stopping by for a grab-and-go, but were pleasantly surprised to find out that not only did they have an enjoyable, bright and modern look, but also had table + bar seating, tv's, and beer on tap! We ended up grabbing a draft beer during our visit just because of how welcoming the atmosphere felt. The prices were inline with what you would expect from any bar/beer&wine store, so no need to worry about an up-charge due to how nice the it is.

As far as competition, they are always the cheapest in town because they don't mark things up like the private resellers do, being part of the county government. For example: 8pk Dogfish vodka infused fruit juices $23.99 at Twinbrook Deli, $24.99 at Belby, but $19.99 here. (btw, Twinbrook Deli has the best Italian sub around, called "The Godfather"). But I've found myself buying things I wouldn't have considered otherwise, because this place has it stocked. Not much of a beer or wine fan but they have enough other kinds (rum, liquors, etc.) which make me curious enough to purchase. My choices have been hit-and-miss, haha, but I do like the variety they have.

A little tricky to find, it's not facing Rockville Pike, you have to descend a set of steps to access the retail behind those buildings, and HBWD is to the right. An eclectic beer selection for sure, though generally very heavy on the IPA focus - maybe because it's summer? Also a focus on a lot of DC-area breweries. I didn't see any Oktoberfests so they're not starting early on those. A lot of hard seltzers (ick) and as far as NA beer just your standard offerings from Athletic. Price-wise probably average; two single (but intriguing) 16 oz cans set me back $10. I'll probably come back in a month or so to see updated seasonal offerings, and maybe I'll take a closer look at their wine selections then too.

What I mean to say is you can get a lot done within a short distance: kibble for your cat or dog, oil for your car, and a little something for yourself. I'd say 40% of the store is devoted to beer and wine. Seems like the wine enthusiasts love Rodman's, and they do wine tastings there on occasion. Wine isn't my thing though I'll pick one up if the bottle is pretty. The beer is...beer. Most of it not my style, usually the craft here and elsewhere has too much of an aftertaste. But I digress! What I come here for are the imported foods. Yes, some can be found elsewhere including Giant and Safeway but others are definitely foreign. Stuff from Europe, perhaps a little from Down Under (which bits I forget). There's a nice sampling of chocolate and non-alcoholic drinks, including 'Just ice Tea'. Just mentioning it because there's two or three places I can find it and herbal tea etc. can be a nice alternative to energy drinks. (Those pointing out that I could make my own tea are correct, and that it's cheaper, but beyond the basic put-teabags-in-bottle-and-let-it sit I just don't have the time.) Now on to cheeses: they have a good selection. I feel the price is right, but at the same time if you go to Aldi's (to the right, at the end of the sidewalk) you can find some comparable cheese for $2-$3 less. Don't know if it's worth the walk and waiting in line, though, when you have something here. There are sales here, of course, and if you go by sale alone you may make out like a bandit. Just don't go when you're on a diet or fasting. Too many temptations.

I enjoy going to this place because I love supporting small business. I have always been greeted with a smile and welcome advice should I be uncertain what I want. The store is compact and you need to have a keen eye or you might miss something. For me, that is literally part of the charm. Yes, they carry all the standard U.S. made mega producer beers and wines. If you need an E&J cab to help make a pasta sauce - they have you covered. If you are looking for a 2016 Paul Hobbs Cab, this is not the place for that. Here is a recent example of that kind of beer you just are not likely to find everywhere: Delirium Barrel Aged 2022 Ale. There was a strong initial scent of alcohol, followed by enveloping toffee and toasted fruity ale esters. Velvety on the tongue. Definitely a powerful and unique ale. I thoroughly enjoyed it. Initially, I went here because the only other place I could find Taj Mahal (Choice Wine & Beer) kept them out in the open. Warm. Which I suspect led them to going bad by the time I picked up one or two. When I walked in, they had the Taj's on the chill along with the Coronas, etc. Toward the back end they have Kingfisher along with German beers and your usual suspects. A lot of wine and beer not on chill, but not a problem though since...I only buy what's behind the glass. Not like the place is an inferno during Summer, but still.
