The facility was clean, felt safe, and had convenient parking. Kathleen was extremely accomodating, and provided me with a fantastic engineer, Bryan. Kathleen really empathizes with the need of musicians, and worked to accommodate my needs. She is an absolute saint, and I love the "floating on sand" aspect of the studio that insulates acoustics from any "sound pollution". The vibe of the place hasn't changed in 10 years, making it the most consistent studio I have every worked with. A huge fan, and I look forward to many more sessions in the near future. LOVE!!!!!

The people working as your assistant and runners are all talented, top notch audio engineers who know how to pretty much troubleshoot every situation. I got called in as a guest sound engineer for an acoustic session and my assistant got everything set up and ready to go even before I walked in for the call time. In some studios, this is not what happens, you get there and you start from scratch, with the Village, you get your set up exactly as you want it and you have a whole team of people ready to help you out whenever you need to. They have an awesome mic locker, a lot of history, great people and a super warm and friendly but genuine vibe. The people are crazy chill but know how to fix a problem. And did I mention that they are relatively affordable? Okay maybe I can say that they probably offer the best value for money with the studios around LA. I don't ever remember being less stressed in a studio session than when I do one here.

Pirate used to be very good but the equipment is very worn out these days…read more I went for a drum session after a few years off the kit and the first studio I rented had a destroyed snare head. Their customer service (via WhatsApp) got me into another studio, upgraded size, free of charge. This one had clamps that wouldn't hold the toms, the screws were totally stripped out on the kick pedal and the whole kit would start falling apart midway through a song. They moved me to another room which was missing a bunch of equipment and had hi-hats for crash cymbals so I asked to be moved back to the previous. I was able to limp through on a few tracks but eventually the kick pedal wouldn't stay in place for longer than a verse or chorus and the rack toms were swinging around in their stripped clamps and the start/stop was making this really pointless. I asked for a 50% refund which I did NOT receive, they gave it back as credit towards next time. Here's the deal: I will be back because they're the best option nearby. Band rehearsal spaces are a tough business. The gear gets absolutely thrashed and maintenance takes both specialized knowledge, money, and care. It seems like their on-site manager either doesn't care, doesn't have the budget to fix things, or has no idea what they're doing. Pirate's the only option nearby that doesn't feel like I'm going to get robbed, stabbed, or tetanus. I'm going to start building up my own small gear to supplement what they can't seem to take care of (cymbals, snare, kick pedal) and hope the problems stop there.

Like, obsessively! Because it's good for the soul and brings me so much joy!!! And we all really need that right now :) Beat Box is just one of the several studios that offer livestream dance classes on WollenDance. I'm a big fan of the Sunday morning livestreams with GROOV3 founder Ben Allen. Though if I miss the livestream, there are tons of Video on Demand classes from Beat Box available on the WollenDance website. Many GROOV3 instructors are also currently offering Zoom video chat classes throughout the week during the quarantine. I'm able to get the weekly schedule from @groov3dance on IG. I like the Zoom classes with Mychele and Natalie. The GROOV3 instructors are not only great dancers, but they are also really good at breaking down the steps in the routine. First you review in half time, then in full time. After you learn an 8-count, you learn the next 8-count. It's very easy for me to follow along and the music they play is the kind of music you wanna sing along to. A lot of 90s jams and 2000s. The friendly instructors do a great job of making you feel included and they are the ultimate hype people! I can't dance as good as them but they often make me feel like I'm the best dancer they've seen...lol! Quick shoutout to my GROOV3 instructors Anne and Cristina whose classes I've attended in person at other studios before the quarantine. I look forward to the day that I can go back to taking GROOV3 classes in person again. Especially since one of the Zoom instructors teaches at Beat Box and her virtual class is awesome! I will for sure be at this studio location as soon as it is safe to do so! :)
