This is a wonderful resource to have for local musicians and music teachers alike. That being said: 1) the cleanliness could be vastly improved. The rugs and couches could really use a deep cleaning. 2) there needs to be stricter enforcement of closed studio doors as the sound bleeds everywhere and into the recording studios. read more

Pirate used to be very good but the equipment is very worn out these days. I went for a drum session after a few years off the kit and the first studio I rented had a destroyed snare head. Their customer service (via WhatsApp) got me into another studio, upgraded size, free of charge. This one had clamps that wouldn't hold the toms, the screws were totally stripped out on the kick pedal and the whole kit would start falling apart midway through a song. They moved me to another room which was missing a bunch of equipment and had hi-hats for crash cymbals so I asked to be moved back to the previous. I was able to limp through on a few tracks but eventually the kick pedal wouldn't stay in place for longer than a verse or chorus and the rack toms were swinging around in their stripped clamps and the start/stop was making this really pointless. I asked for a 50% refund which I did NOT receive, they gave it back as credit towards next time. Here's the deal: I will be back because they're the best option nearby. Band rehearsal spaces are a tough business. The gear gets absolutely thrashed and maintenance takes both specialized knowledge, money, and care. It seems like their on-site manager either doesn't care, doesn't have the budget to fix things, or has no idea what they're doing. Pirate's the only option nearby that doesn't feel like I'm going to get robbed, stabbed, or tetanus. I'm going to start building up my own small gear to supplement what they can't seem to take care of (cymbals, snare, kick pedal) and hope the problems stop there. read more

The rooms are well sound-proofed, the space is clean, and contrary to popular criticism, the vending machines are full. You should plan on bringing your own equipment plus some spare parts for what the studio provides. The high hat was missing clamps, the first microphone couldn't hold a cable, and the wrong cable was provided for the second mic, all of which went into an underpowered PA. There is nobody on site to help with quick fixes. That said, if you just need a room to get together with friends and make a bunch of noise, this place is good enough, and it's much less expensive than other studios. Not awful, unless you plan on taking your session very seriously. read more

I recently started going to this place frequently, on my 3rd and 4th time I noticed the low frequencies from other rooms were literally being recorded in our sessions, we had to pause every minute in order to get our vocals recorded "professionally" in a "PRO" recording studio, they shouldn't advertise it as a "PRO" when in reality it's just basic, why even advertise "recording studio rooms" when you cant even record without having other neighbor's low frequencies showing up in your own recordings? this last time was a huge bummer, and I was really starting to love this place until.... :/ read more

This place used to be great. I remember when it first opened. I was so excited to have a place to rehearse that was affordable. It had everything snacks, ear plugs and was clean. Lately, it's like no one is here to up keep it. There's no toilet paper in the stalls, the vending machines have been empty for months and doesn't take any form of payment. The floors are beyond filthy. There is no way to change the thermostat when it's hot as hell. Every week I come here and I'm like what else won't be working? Look I'm always here to support musicians but this place really needs someone to take care of it. read more

I needed a soundproof space to record my Podcast Breakdown episodes and searched for a studio near my place open 24/7. Found Pirate Studios West Adams located close by me. I can't emphasize this enough, how Super Pumped I am I've worked as a Radio, on-air personality over 30 years, and the studios @Pirate.com are on the level high tech and state of the art and my favorite place in the world right now. I booked for the first time last night. I'm personally pleased Pirate studios are available at any hour I don't have to worry about disturbing anybody else. It's a dream come true and is so fantastically simple to book, find, and use their studio equipment the space was incredibly clean and covid safe, and the self-check-in is super smooth getting in and setting up quickly. I will be booking all my sessions here. read more

Pirate studios is awesome! We rent for band rehearsals. The rooms are clean and have a standard backline, PA, Mixer set up. The walls have a basic acoustic treatment that works pretty well. The floors are concrete so rugs could help. The studios are reasonably priced. The customer service is very responsive and helpful. I also like that it's totally self sufficient and I don't have to check in with the weird studio person that exists in nearly every rehearsal space in LA. They text you access codes and everything is booked and paid online. Really love that part. I have only been to the south LA location on Jefferson blvd. Never booked at Silver Lake but I'm sure it's the same idea. For sure recommend. read more

Absolutely shocked at the 3.5 star rating here. Pirate is by far the best rehearsal studio I've been to in LA and I've been to several since I moved here and started my first LA based band back in 2008. The studios are super clean, there's SO much space in them. They have great lighting in the studio and an awesome atmosphere. Booking your studio is a breeze through their website and you can get credits for recommending to friends. I even had an issue where the first time I booked a studio with a discount credit for first time customers, I eventually had to cancel. I rebooked again and was no longer able to use my first time credit. I contacted customer service and they added the credit back to my account. Couldn't really ask for more. Everything they've done for me has been great. Highly recommend. read more

This place does not take care of their drum kits what so ever. First off, on the website it says to bring your own Hi-Hat clutch, obviously they don't realize that not all Hi-Hat stands have the same sized clutch, so obviously the hi hat stand I was provided with didnt fit my hi hat clutch, so I was not able to use them. Second, the drum throne was insanely short, even on the tallest hight you can make it which is really annoying if your tall like myself, and stops me from being able to play comfortably. Also the part of the throne you sit on was being held up by a kick pedal beater. Third, the kick drum head was cracked, falling apart, and sounded horrible, I couldn't even tune it to make it sound semi alright. Fourth, the tom drum heads were tuned insanely high, so I went to tune them down each half a turn, and then I realized why they were tuned so high. These drum heads must've been on these drums for years. They sounded like nothing, just a dry little thud, so no wonder they were tuned insanely high. I really wish that I hadn't spend my money here because the quality of this place isn't anywhere near being worth $40. read more

The studio is nice, can be a bit cleaner but the biggest issue here is the drums they badly need to be replaced or tuned, all the cymbals in my room were the exact same thing. All 18 inch crash rides. Very disappointed in the drums. I've come here 3 times in the past year and every time the drums are in horrible shape. Please replace or retune these drums and fix the mounts. read more
