I recently used Timpsons in Marlborough to change a watch battery. This was carried out in about half an hour while I went and walked round the market. I was put off by the price at first: at around £20 it was more than I'd paid for the watch on eBay, and more than the £10-12 I had in my head. However I changed my mind when I learnt that this includes a lifetime guarantee, which means that I now have a card, and can have my battery changed at any branch of Timpsons totally free, for as long as that watch lasts.
Next day it was a downer to realise one of the buttons on my watch was cracked I couldn't be honestly sure it wasn't cracked before. Anyway, it's still working fine, and I hope to still get at least one free change out of it!
This branch of Timpsons is actually part of a shop called Johnsons. I wasn't quite sure who did what, but you can also get engraving, shoe repairs, a locksmith and dry cleaning, all useful things! Timpsons as a chain has branches all over the place (over 550 according to the website). One of my deciding factors was that they do have branches in London, so I won't have to go all the way back to Marlborough to get my battery changed The guy who did the work was lovely really hope he wasn't responsible for the cracking! read more
