Most shoe repair work has to be left with them, and signs are ordered from an outside company, but keys are cut while you wait. I had many keys cut at this branch in the course of a previous job and never had a problem with a key not working, so in my experience the quality of work completed is very good. I have found this store more helpful in terms of general advice than the branch at the corner of Hertford Street.

The guy at the counter said it would take around half an hour but I was on my way back to work so he said to bring them back the next day when I wasn't wearing them. I went back today prepared to leave them for half an hour. There was only one person working in the shop. There were a few people waiting and he completely ignored them and carried on with repairing shoes with his back to us. One man walked out. After about 10 minutes he had the courtesy to ask if he could help me and when I said could I leave my boots and come back in half an hour, he said he was too busy, it would take a few days!! I said that he had told me the day before to leave them and it would only take half an hour and he said it wasn't as busy yesterday! I was just walking out when another man came in and said he had left a watch for a new strap and had been told he could pick it up today and the employee told him he hadn't done it yet!! Will go elsewhere in future, rude and unprofessional. Incidentally the store opening hours shows 8.30 a.m. but when I passed at 8.50 am on my way to work, it was in darkness. Had hoped to leave my boots then and pick them up at lunchtime. I would avoid unless you want to wait a few days to pick anything up.

The man on duty in the shop was really, really nice and even though we turned up while he was quite rushed off his feet, (he is the only member of staff there), he was polite and attentive to every customer. Then went to open my car door, no problems, went to turn ignition on and it wouldn't work. Went back to the store and the first man was on a break so the other man said he should not have done the key for me because my key is a chip key which means it will work in doors no problem but wont be able to turn the car on! The bloke apologised, saying his colleague should have explained this and gave me a refund. He also advised me where to go and get a new key done as he was unable to do it there as it needed to be programmed.

I was in the centre of town…read moreon a Tuesday and a quick search on Yelp threw up Timpson's as a place that offered this service and was pretty local. I battled through the half term traffic to get to the branch on New Street. First thing to note is that due to its location, it can be a bit of a difficult spot. It's a small unit, just off the junction with Corporation street (signified by the keys in the window and the nice clear signage on the unit). I popped in and waited whilst two young ladies were collecting their boots which had been re-heeled (good to note they offer this service too). The gent behind the desk was smiley, friendly and helpful and despite him being busy with another customer, I was greeted right away. When it was my turn to be served, I handed him the key and let him do his thing. He ended up being incredibly quick and it was all sorted in about a minute. My single key cost £6 to cut (apparently this is quite reasonable) and I was in and out in 5 minutes. Timpson's offer key cutting, key rings for purchase, gifts (which include personalised engraving) and re-heeling. I don't use these services very often, but if you need them I can recommend this branch.

Unfortunately I had a bad experience whereby I got a new key cut for my front door, to only discover that it didn't work as it hadn't been cut right. I rang up Timpsons and explained the situation and they were kind enough to send a locksmith out as well as fit a new lock free of charge as I couldn't get in. Result! I would still use this business, but probably not for key cuts although I know mistakes can happen.

When it does actually open though, if you can get in there quick before it closes again, you'll find it's a little tiny shop run by one man who can reheel your boots, cut you some new keys and sell you some key fobs all for a reasonable price. I would much rather support a mom n' pop store like this as opposed to a high street store, now if only he would open regularly and let me!

This shop also has the widest range of darts and darts accessories that I have been able to find in Coventry, with all darts of any weight £10 with case and a set of flights, of which they also have a wide range. He even has a dart board set up you can try the darts out on!
