The Wilton Cobbler is no exception and in my experience, these guys always do a great job. The store is literally just a counter, facing out into the indoor market and selling nothing more than a limited range of hardware items, most of which are overpriced compared to pound shops and convenience stores, but The Wilton Cobbler's services are second to none. They are also quick and will turn around a smarter looking shoe heel as fast as you need it or you can leave it with them if you're not in a rush. It's certainly more expensive than my regular place in the Bull ring market but a lot more convenient. They don't seem to have the same care as my heels weren't as polished off they should be but hey, they are re-heeled and ready for walking! The guy at the counter said it would take around half an hour but I was on my way back to work so he said to bring them back the next day when I wasn't wearing them. I went back today prepared to leave them for half an hour. There was only one person working in the shop. There were a few people waiting and he completely ignored them and carried on with repairing shoes with his back to us. One man walked out. After about 10 minutes he had the courtesy to ask if he could help me and when I said could I leave my boots and come back in half an hour, he said he was too busy, it would take a few days!! I said that he had told me the day before to leave them and it would only take half an hour and he said it wasn't as busy yesterday! I was just walking out when another man came in and said he had left a watch for a new strap and had been told he could pick it up today and the employee told him he hadn't done it yet!! Will go elsewhere in future, rude and unprofessional. Incidentally the store opening hours shows 8.30 a.m. but when I passed at 8.50 am on my way to work, it was in darkness. Had hoped to leave my boots then and pick them up at lunchtime. I would avoid unless you want to wait a few days to pick anything up.

I've been to some High Street shoe repairers who have sometimes charged more than I paid for the shoes! This is why I was relieved to stumble across Dumas Shoe Repairs. It's a small, cluttered shop on the busy Coventry Road. The owner is a pleasant man who is great at his job. He completes shoe repairs in a couple of days for less than a fiver! That's around a third of what I've paid elsewhere! He also offers key-cutting services and I've enquired about repairing a stitch for my leather beanbag, which the owner was happy to help with. Parking is a little tricky in this area although you may be lucky enough to find on-street parking. Otherwise, you'd have to park on a side street that could be a bit of a walk.

Once inside the cramped shop, there's maybe four feet by four feet square where the customer can stand, but what more space do you need if you're only coming in for a heel repair or to have a spare key cut? I've had to use S Parmar's services a few times over the last few years and each time has been a pleasant experience, I've gone in to get a key cut, the service has been friendly, the price has been cheap and all importantly, the key has worked. I haven't used the shoe repair side of the business so I can't comment on that, but as a key cutters, it definitely gets the thumbs up from me.

Getting shoes re-heeled is just one of those things you always forget to get done and in the end you chuck them away because you can't be bothered - hopefully this isn't just me. Fortunately for me I go over this way to get my hair done. I popped into the shop - expecting a big discussion - but the guy behind the counter took them off me and said he knew what to do. He was friendly enough and assured me he would have them ready within an hour or so. It was brilliant. I was in and out! When I collected them there were a couple of people already in. It did make it a bit of a squeeze (as the shop floor is tiny) but I didn't mind waiting, I'd been gone for a few hours so I knew they would be ready. Out they came all newly heeled and shiny - I don't think he polished them but they looked so much better than when I first took them in. For such a little shop he certainly gets a lot of business, this has to be down to the service and pricing. I'll be using him again soon.
