Moving to a new place is scary enough when you consider leaving everything you're familiar with…read morebehind. When you know your rent will double (if not triple!) and other things get more expensive, it makes the situation even more stressful. Before making any major decisions, I figured it best to have someone take a look at my finances. Wendy and i have known each other socially for a few years now and I knew she did something with money, stocks and helping people make more money. That's about it. Don't get me wrong, either, I don't have extra money to be putting into stocks right now. I just wanted someone who doesn't count on his/her fingers (like me!) to make sure that my updated budget seemed reasonable. She was kind enough to meet up with me over coffee and talk through my concerns about "movin' on up" to a bigger city. She busted out her financial calculator and went through all of the expected expenses and even suggested that I start saving more money as a "cash cushion" in case there were any unexpected emergencies far, far away from anyone I know. She also told me that I won't be allowed to buy clothes for awhile, but somehow I just can't stick to that rule. Guess that means I'll be eating hot dogs at home on Friday nights for awhile, huh? :) Really, it's not any financial planner's "job" to go through some sad-looking Excel spreadsheets and help you do basic math to figure out how much rent you'll be able to afford. But it was very kind of Wendy to do so and I appreciate the reassurance that everything is going to be OK. If you do have extra money to invest and want to work with someone who's savvy and trustworthy, give her a call! She'll gladly help you out!

When you go out in public with Bill to eat it usually takes over an hour for him to be able to leave, again, because he seems to know everyone everywhere we may happen to go. It all comes down to knowing the market and what choices are available, which in my experience most others do not present to their clients in such clear and concise ways to help us to make the best possible choices. Bill is not only my insurance specialist, he is my friend and I could not give a stronger recommendation.

My scores were in the toilet, and I considered bankruptcy, but in the end I chose them because bankruptcy would have impacted my credit much more profoundly, and frankly didn't feel right about not paying my creditors. I felt comfortable using PCS because of their BBB rating, and felt their fees were reasonable, and were based on money saved, vs. total debt. It was an easy, structured way to become debt-free in less than one year, and my scores went up each time an account was settled. Two years later, I have 6 open lines of credit (that I pay in full each month), and have good-very good credit scores.

If not for St. Louis Home Retention, we would have lost our home to foreclosure. We are…read moreself-employed, business had gotten very slow and we were behind in our payments. We had tried to work with the lender and complete the loan modification forms ourselves but to no avail. I had heard the St Louis Home Retention ad numerous times on the radio and finally wrote the info down and contacted them. I told Steve everything, and it was bad, and right away he said they could help. We met with Steve back in October and he told us exactly how the process works, how long it would take, (it is not a quick process thanks to the lenders) and how much it would cost. We signed on, and then Doug and I spent quality times together with emails, phone calls and paperwork till March, when Doug called me and said not only were we approved for the loan modification but our interest rate was 2% and our payment was over $700 less. Twice the lender set the sale date for the foreclosure sale and all along Doug kept telling me, don't give up. Kathi stayed on the lender everyday to make sure they postponed the sale, while the lender kept requesting more paperwork. Every time the lender asked for more paperwork, Doug would send it to them before the due date, I think he wore the lender down! There is no way we ever could have filled out all the paperwork per the lender's guidelines. Finally, the lender approved us, St Louis Home Retention got the deal done! It was an emotional roller coaster and when Doug called with the fantastic news I cried, I was so overwhelmed with emotions. We will be forever grateful to Steve, Doug and Kathi.
