Great variety of shops, cafes, fresh foods, an Apple store (of course), great food court -where u can get the best duck laksa, and a relaxing out door area to hang, eat or just let the kids play in the water features or ship playground. Most stores are pricier than others however they definitely have cheaper options. Definitely a go to for basic girly needs, i.e sephora and mecca maxima, charlestown is one of the only places in newcastle that has these stores.

Westfield Kotara is still undergoing its transformation but so far the addition of the rooftop dining and cinema precinct as well as the expansion on the second floor has me excited and I'm not the shopping type. I have yet to try Event Cinemas but I have delighted my tastebuds at Kinn Thai, San Churro, Lone Star, Crinitis.... most of the rooftop restaurants to be honest. It's a lovely space. Kmart has yet to reopen (est late Nov 2018) and Toys r Us is no longer. David Jones and Target are still the major retailers with plenty of other stores catering to all fashions, beauty and home. 3 hour free parking seems standard now with the new parking system recording your cars number plate. No more tickets. Sadly though I don't think much has been done to ease the congestion issues.
