The shop is split into two with a coriador between them at the rear of the shop. The music shop sells everything from sheet music, blu-ray films and CDs ranging from rock to jazz. It's the kind of place where you can buy a strap for your guitar or a metronome. The staff are very helpful and I had a good chat about the album they were playing while I was in there. The bookshop is just as eclectic. They have both new and secondhand stuff, ranging from classics in book club editions through to a good science fiction section at the back. I enjoyed browsing very much and I am going to have to get back there.

They also do plenty of new stock to compliment the second hand items, this is mainly chart DVDs and discontinued electrical goods. All electricals are graded on their condition with the price reflecting that, so you know of any minor scratches etc. before you've paid. Mobile phones are separated into network grouping with unlocked phones on their own; this shop was invaluable when my mobile phone was being repaired rendering the need for a cheap temporary phone on a network which tend to avoid that market. The games and films have crazy prices with Xbox360 games typically around £25 even for the most recent and popular titles. DVDs likewise, I managed to buy a brand new copy of The Simpsons Movie on DVD for £3 just three weeks after it was released. Well worth a visit when in the Arndale if you're thinking of popping into anywhere like HMV.

The range includes some beautiful fair trade items, such are recycled sari silk yarn, and purchases are placed into recycled Indian newspaper bags. What singles this shop out though, is not its stock, but the helpfulness of the staff. Whenever I, an absolute beginner to the knitted arts, have needed advice, Sue, or her staff, have been more than happy to help. Dumb questions like 'how do you cast off', are answered without making you feel foolish. The shop also run a series of workshops in knitting and related crafts which take place in various locations around the locality. There is also an annual outing to the Knitting and Stitching Show which is a very popular event. The shop has an online presence too so products can be ordered at a distance. The website is simple and easy to use and orders are fulfilled promptly. If you are not a knitter, a short time in the shop might convince you to give it a go. If you do knit then the knowledge and helpfulness of the staff will make this a place you return to again and again.
