My grandparents recently moved in here and the place is nice. I feel comfortable knowing that they are well taken care of here.

Cue the cliche "if I could rate them less than one star I would" but this is where we are. Our…read morehistory with the Waterford warrants this as a credible review since our loved one has been here for many years. I wish I could say it's going well but after many chances with (MANY owners) it seems as though they have run out of chances with us. While marketed as a "gated community" the gate is no longer working and has not been for many months. So now it is left open, all of the time, which completely defeats its purpose in leading people to believe it is a gated community. This property has a tendency of gas lighting it's residents. One issue comes up and upon asking the front desk about the issue they immediately manage to turn it around on the resident and how THEY have problems with something that resident is doing. Now had they brought that completely irrelevant issue up prior to this conversation we might have taken them seriously. Instead, they practically used their 'problem' to eliminate our own concerns. It has become evident that their (unprofessional) defense mechanism is to make their residents' family feel crazy for having ANY issues with the Waterford. The current ownership is complicit in furthering the unprofessional communication and agreeing with the ridiculous treatment of its residents. I anticipate going into more detail soon but for the interim this review is to warn anyone thinking about placing their loved ones in this place. If you *truly love* your family member I urge you to not place them in such toxic care. Over the last year it has become clear to us which direction the Waterford is heading and because of that we have every intention of removing our loved one from this place as soon as humanly possible.

Best move the family ever made - the friendly Waterford staff have helped improve the quality of her life immeasurably. She enjoys the activities, game sessions, local outings, shopping excursions, music events, and their extensive library. She has made a ton of new friends here and the value of that alone cannot be underestimated. Waterford on Huebner is smack dab in the middle of San Antonio's hospital / medical district, and that is not only a great comfort health wise - but if there are any citywide power outages, the hospital district gets top energy priority. We have shared meals at Waterford on Huebner with her and the chow is great! But top marks really go to the staff for their friendly welcome to family and residents. Highest possible recommendation - * * * * *

My in laws have resided at this facility for more than a year, after "A Place Called Mom"…read morerecommended it. The facility offered many amenities when they moved in, and they were quite happy with their new living arrangements. Over the last seven months or so, the entire facility has gone down hill, and many residents have moved out. A recent change of ownership further helped to deteriorate living conditions. Management has been made aware of numerous issues, but has taken no action to correct the complaints. Although there have been numerous issues with maintenance, dining quality, resident comfort, and mobility access, the latest issue involves the resident's transportation. Many residents, my in-laws included, no longer drive, and rely on the facility transportation to get to the store, doctor's visits, and other shopping areas. The single bus used to transport the residents is often broken down, and scheduled trips are cancelled without notice. Even when the outage is known ahead of time, communication with the residents is poor. For example, the Monday morning trip to H-E-B was cancelled because the bus broke down on Saturday, but no residents were notified of the cancellation! When the bus IS running, many residents avoid trips if a particular bus driver is driving. He is nasty to the residents and absolutely refuses to help them with their bags when walking down the steps of the bus. His reason for refusal: "This is independent living!" Again, management has been made aware of the employee's attitude, but it continues. This same driver will make a resident wait at the store for more than an hour before he picks them up! There are many other retirement residents here in San Antonio, and I'd highly recommend you research them before considering this facility. This is NOT a place you want your loved one to reside at.

This is such a wonderful place. My wife found this place after long hours, days, of researching…read more This place is a complete change from where she was staying before. The rooms are clean. My wife's grandmother smells nice. There are nurses constantly checking on her and they are very informative. My wife and my Mother in law asked me to sit in with them for a meeting they have every three months. I did not speak much. I just listened to the nurse and the head administrator explain how things were going with her grandmother. Medications she's taking, her progress, etc. I am relieved. My wife had been stressing about finding a good place for her grandmother. So if she's stressed, well all the husbands know, than I'm stressed. Lol. Anyway, this place is full of life. I started to take pictures, but I was not allowed to take pictures of the residents, I was told by a nurse, but they had no problem with me taking pictures of anything else. It was for the protection of the residents, which I totally understand. Good for them, protecting the identity of the residents. Everyone there seems so happy. They even have a beauty salon in the home!!! They have activities and they encourage the residents to do whatever they want. They don't force them, they let them go at there own pace. I am relieved. When I saw grandma sleeping, snoring, lol, I knew everything was going to be alright. Oh and I asked some questions about employment tenure. Almost all of the workers there have been working for the nursing home for 10 years+! That's a great sign, because you don't stay at a job that long if your not happy. Thank you for taking care of our grandmother.

My family decided that people NEED to know what to expect for $300,000 in care at The June. This is…read moreour honest experience: The June was AMAZING at first! It became our 2nd home! Friendly, clean, and so much socializing! A chef in a white coat and hat greeted residents by name as he scratch-made dishes! We played games! Visited! Activities! Then it was bought out. The director was replaced, then replaced again. Then again? We lost count of directors and caretakers. Each visit revealed a lower quality of caretakers. They just became aides. Each aide was worse than the last. Very low quality. Disappointing. Forgive my rudeness. All this is FINE in the world, but when you rely on caretakers to wipe feces off your loved one and spoon-feed them for survival, you want good folks. Folks with passion for care or QUALITY OF LIFE? The 1 or 2 aides would be sitting in the chairs watching TV in the back room. Every time we arrived. The last 5 years have been sad and shameful. She has fallen out of bed when side railing was not installed. She broke her femur and spent 2 years in excruciating pain. The bones scraped together against nerves. It was horrific. 2 years of this. Each new aide had no idea, so they just pushed her legs roughly. The aides never knew she had a broken femur. She just screamed in agony. She developed a severe bed sore. Infected. Oozing. Green. Horrid pain. We begged for an mattress pad that rotates the pressure points. They eventually installed an air mattress. When I arrived, it was unplugged and deflated. Grandma was laying in urine on a deflated pad. My grandmother was always laying in urine or feces. Her mouth and lips were always cracked and nearly bleeding. I'd put a water bottle and straw up to her mouth. She'd gulp down the entire bottle. GIVE HER WATER AT LEAST! This is not a pleasant situation for anyone. It is a difficult job. BUT, this is why we gladly pay over $5,000 a month to receive the CARE. QUALITY OF LIFE. Even though she was declining. We just hoped that they'd step up. My grandmother spent 50 years as a NURSE. She cared for the injured, the sick, and the elderly. She wiped the feces and urine. She was a woman with dignity and compassion. She has EARNED the benefit of receiving care! Instead, she spent 5 years in a closed room with the TV playing an endless loop of a Pay-Per-View ads because The June couldn't find a remote. Or, the TV Guide just scrolling a black screen. Silence. This place has become like a silent prison. Meals taste like microwaved food. Hallways are vacant. Silent. DOORS stay closed. 100% uncomfortable. No one is EVER visible. Humans avoid this place. Some residents BEG you to let them out. PLEASE HELP. They beg. My grandmother was ultimately prescribed morphine to ease her pain. When I'd arrive to see her in agony, I'd hunt down an aide to kindly as for today's morphine. This was a brutal request. The med tech HATED to be asked anything. Asking the med tech a question INCONVENIENCES her. On the morning after Thanksgiving, hospice called with the information that grandma had died. Hospice? We didn't hear from The June? We called for the procedure. We left a message. No call back. We tried again later. Left message. No call back. It's been 3 days. Still a mystery. The June has no procedure for COURTESY. No call for condolences. No call for information. The old, frail, retired nurse with dry, cracked lips and the broken hip will no longer need anything from the 2 aides watching TV. But I'm sure those 2 aides will be replaced by 1 aide who will probably be worse. And they called her the WRONG damn name for 5 years. How's that for dignity?
