The best part of this shop is its signage. For some reasons, some people make a joke of it by removing the Es from the Essex...so it reads, "sex furniture warehouse". As well as the huge main warehouse area it has a more open area at each end - one for plants and gardens, the other for wood, decking, slabs, drainpipes etc. This B and Q store is very well staffed by people who even if they don't know the answer to a question will try to find out, and are enthusiastic. We went specifically to get a plum tree. We got a lovely shaped specimen and were given good advice about planting and pruning. The chap we were speaking to also recommended a couple of jasmines and we bought a few annuals too. He kindly tied up the tree and helped us into the car with it. The creepers and tree have really taken hold in our garden, thanks to the good advice, and are growing nicely this year. We're hoping to make another trip out to Thompsons later this summer.

The shop area houses a large range of garden furniture, water features, books and gifts as well as a large range of house plants including orchids and some exotic species. There are also many types of garden compost and accessories including paving and stoneware for garden landscaping. Overall a very pleasant place to browse for your gardening needs.

All this in a lovely setting that you just can't help wandering around, there are hidden treasures at every turn. Watch out for the Elephant !!! Shame it is closed on Sundays. They have enlarged the Car park so there is plenty of space now.

One of the nice things about this garden centre is that in their shrub area they always have a nice stock of Acers in (the trees, not the computers), and they're very reasonably priced.
