Specialties
Much of my work has been with clients (women and men) who have experienced sexual abuse or some other form of sexual harm; though issues related to sexuality may or may not be the focus of treatment. I have worked with victims as well as perpetrators.
I have also worked with clients dealing with depression, anxiety, trauma, grief, issues of desire, issues of identity, and all kinds of personal and relational concerns.
Whatever issues you are dealing with, my role is to pay attention to you and to invite you to do the same. You speak. I listen and learn your language--the language that is particular to you and your story.
Therapy then becomes a safe place for you to speak up and be heard, for you to be known and challenged.
I find that when a client and I simply focus together on paying attention, we consistently discover unexpected truth and beauty--particularly within the parts of themselves that were previously discounted.
This sparks joy.
You can rediscover friendship with the self you were made to be.
History
Established in 2018.
I have been a professional counselor since 2006. I received my Masters in counseling from Reformed Theological Seminary in 2007. Prior to that I received my Bachelors in English Literature from the University of Michigan in 2001.
I have also received professional training in counseling survivors of trauma and sexual abuse from The Allender Center.
I have over 17 years of full-time experience caring for people in a church setting (working both with people who did and people who did not identify with any particular religion), and over 12 years of experience as a professional counselor (with some overlap between the two). I have counseled people dealing all kinds of personal and relational concerns, struggles, and trauma--with a particular interest in sexuality, sexual addiction, and all forms of sexual harm.
I have participated in and led many conferences and groups focused on recovery and healing in general, and trauma and sexual abuse in particular.
Meet the Business Owner: Tim C.
I consider it a great honor to walk alongside others in their search for healing and aliveness.
I have often known what it's like to lose that sense of aliveness. But I have also known what it is to receive kindness and to find life reawakening inside of me. So I love to provide others with a taste of kindness: the experience of being seen, welcomed, and even a little disrupted, in a way that opens one up to goodness.
I've found that I am a Listener and a See-er: I love to pay attention, and I love how powerful and transformative paying attention can be--especially with those who long to feel more alive and who want to find their own voice.
Here's what I have learned from my own battles with suffering, and from 12 years of sitting with others in the midst of their pain:
The seeds of our best selves are hidden even within the darkest places in our stories--even if that darkest place is right here, right now.
