They have hundreds of artists create pieces live in front of you throughout the event and then they auction off the pieces to fund the studio. I was immediately intrigued and addicted. We have been every year since. Since that first event, St. Louis City Open Studios and Gallery has become one of my top "kid friendly" places in this city. They offer fun and educational art-centered classes for kids as well as open studio hours six days a week. Your "little" can learn how to throw some clay onto a wheel, string their own necklace, or illustrate their own book. My personal favorite is the kid and me class on Saturday afternoons. For one hundred bucks you get six weeks of uninterrupted quality family time with all of the art supplies as well as an art instructor provided. Who knows...you may have given birth to the next Picasso and never have known it with all that time they spend on the Wii. It's 25 degrees today so we skipped the playground and came here- great idea for chilly, rainy or too hot summer days. They had lots of inspiration boxes to fit different personalities. I found one I really liked and they helped me put one together to fit my mom. I ended up getting a couple of pieces of handmade pottery, tea, caramels, and a tiny plant. They wrapped it up beautifully in a box and ribbon. I will definitely be coming back here for future gifting needs and it's great to be able to support many local companies in one place.

You can comfortably seat 24 with space to mingle indoors and 24 (six tables of 4) outdoors. The garden patio is lovely and it was nice that it was covered and offered ceiling fans to keep the humid August air moving. I was disappointed in the lack of communication from Neil. I sent emails, but he never responded. I called a week later and someone told me he was out of town. He should get an auto-response for his emails if he plans on leaving town. He also said he would have the space set up (tables and chairs arranged) the night before my event, but when I arrived that day he was still in the process of setting up. That took time away from decorating the room and setting up the food buffet. Be aware the table linens they offer are the size of table toppers and only hang down about 3 inches, so plan on ordering your own table clothes. Overall the space is nice and the price is reasonable, but the coordinator is not very organized.
